Noah And The Whale cover Beastie Boys' '(You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party!)' – watch

The band cover the hip-hop anthem while performing live in New York

Noah And The Whale covered Beastie Boys' classic 1987 single '(You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party!)' last night (October 22) at their show at New York's Irving Plaza. Watch the performance above now.

The band's frontman Charlie Fink announced to the crowd that the show was special for two reasons, as it was in New York – which he called "the greatest city in the world" – and because it was the final date of their current North American tour.

Explaining that the best band in the world also came from New York City, he told the cheering crowd that they would be playing a Beastie Boys song that they had planned just for the night's show, and that the version would have "a lot of character" as they didn't know it too well.

Noah And The Whale played a host of tracks from throughout their career during the set, including 'Heart Of Nowhere', the title track from their most recent album, which came out earlier this year, following their third LP, 2011's 'Last Night On Earth'.

They also played new album song 'Lifetime', as well as older material such as 'Jocasta', 'Love Of An Orchestra', 'Shape Of My Heart', 'LIFEGOESON', 'Give A Little Love', 'Old Joy', 'Blue Skies', 'Waiting For My Chance to Come' and a fan request, 'Stranger'.
