Noel Gallagher: 'Can I Play Glastonbury please?'

Oasis' leader uses NME.COM to ask for a slot this year

Oasis leader Noel Gallagher has asked NME to help get him another gig: a solo slot at Glastonbury.

The star, currently playing a host of solo shows, is so anxious to play the bash he has headlined twice with his band (in 1995 and 2004) that he’s put in a request to organiser Michael Eavis via us.

“Playing the acoustic stuff at the festivals, that would be good,” admitted Gallagher. “Actually, Glastonbury acoustic tent sounds nice! That would be good. Yeah, do us a favour stick that in and Mr Eavis will give me a call!”

Although the guitarist joked that if his last minute request is successful, he could end-up playing against all the bands he wants to check out this year.

“Saying that he’d probably put me on at the same time as Arctic Monkeys,” mused Gallagher. “The best slot is second on the bill on the Other Stage. I’ve never had that slot at Glastonbury, but we’ve done it at foreign festivals and it’s great.”

Also in this week’s NME we get wasted with chart newcomers The Twang, we take an in-depth look at the recent SXSW Festival, and get ready to say goodbye to one of London’s most famous venues, Hammersmith Palais.

Plus – we review My Chemical Romance’s UK comeback, as well as taking a look at the new albums from Kings Of Leon and The Academy Is….

McGlasto

Apr 14, 2008

I've been to 8 or so Glastos and have been to the last 3, all of which were very wet and muddy but like so many that have experienced Glastonbury I agree that it's the people and atmosphere that make it what it is/was. Over the years the price has risen extortionately which automatically prices out large areas of our communities and the very soul that made Glastonbury what it was. The increased numbers also make it very difficult to move around and you miss a lot of acts because of this, which is what you pay all that money for at the end of the day. Last year was my last Glasto and I'll be going to smaller festivals (GreenMan in Wales and Connect in Scotland) that provide the space, atmosphere, scenery and the peace that Glasto once had. I loved Glasto for the way it was and it's diversity of people and cultures but now that Advertising and Ticket sales are the most important things the SOUL has been lost. Jay-Z to headline..Oh dear! Who's idea was that? Noel's got it spot on. It's turned into McGlasto. No Thanks!
