The Gallaghers' new album will be out in October

Oasis will release their next studio album, 'Dig Out Your Soul', on October 6 on their Big Brother label.

The album will be preceded by a single, 'The Shock Of The Lightning', on September 29.

The LP, which will be the band's seventh studio effort, was produced by Dave Sardy, who also worked on Oasis' last album, 2005's 'Don't Believe The Truth'. It was recorded in London's Abbey Road and mixed in Los Angeles.

Comeback single 'The Shock Of The Lightning' was written by Noel Gallagher and features his brother, Liam Gallagher, on lead vocals.

Speaking about the album Noel Gallagher said: "I wanted to write music that had a groove; not songs that followed that traditional pattern of verse, chorus and middle eight.

"I wanted a sound that was more hypnotic; more driving. Songs that would draw you in, in a different way. Songs that you would maybe have to connect to – to feel."

Of 'The Shock Of The Lightning', Gallagher added: "If 'The Shock Of The Lightning' sounds instant and compelling to you, it's because it was written dead fast. And recorded dead fast.

"'The Shock of The Lightning' basically is the demo. And it has retained its energy. And there’s a lot to be said for that, I think. The first time you record something is always the best."

When comparing early Oasis with the Oasis of now, all I'm left thinking is "Cool, they've both still got their hair."

i love oasis, but they seriously need to stop. let some other bands take over. they've been going at it far too long and it's getting old. Doesn't anyone else agree?

Does anyone really care about them anymore ??For a long time they have become far more predictable than Status Quo -why do they get so much publicity? Hawkwind don't and they make far more interesting albums !!

AMEN AND ALLELUIA!!!!! Please play MSG again! The gods of rock are returning.....OASIS......OASIS....OASIS.

I think it's clear a lot of people still care! It's true that Oasis have been largely dissapointing for ages, but Noel still shines through - I hope he wrote most of the new album... Sounds like he's trying to write some genuinely different pieces of music now... only a decade behind Albarn...

Hey ian_britboy a.k.a Ricky Wilson, ya great idea Oasis should step over and let the Kaiser Cheifs take over ---- YA RIGHT ---- :)

Exactly jeffn, Damon Albarn may be a bit of a pr*ck but musically he's streets ahead of Noel, who is a one-trick pony. Used to be a big fan of Oasis back in the mid-90's, but let's face it, they're a busted flush these days.

Shit titles, but what Noel says about the record sounds promising, and Dave Sardy did a great job on Don't Believe The Truth so that should be a good one. They've only been going for 15 years. Lots of great bands have been going on for even longer than this : Primal Scream, Spiritualized, New Order (well, they seem to have split up for good now), R.E.M, Depeche Mode, Ian Brown... 15-20 years is a beautiful age for a band, and Don't Believe The Truth showed that they were still capable of writing pretty good songs and record them the right way.

I would like to offer to save NME journalists time now by writing the interview. Not because NME are sycophantic, but because Oasis have become utterly, utterly predictable:'We gfot it slightly wrong with our last album but this time we've got it right...'This is our second best album...''We still think the Beatles are the best band ever...' We hate .... and .... and ... because they look like students.'You wait. I would LOVE to be proved wrong but it's been downhill since 1997. face the facts.

class news...to the people writing negative comments, which bands are you in too? at the end of the day oasis are going to have 1 of the biggest followings around the world for a long time, i dont know what bands you idiots are into but im sure they will not be mentioned in the same breath as rolling stones, the who, led zeppelin, beatles, the jam, stone roses, U2.... oasis are tho, plain and simple...oasis are1 of the few bitish bands which give people hope in music and in life...OASIS TILL I DIE!!!

From the Edith Bowman review of this single and album i think this one will be something special! These boys have shown they've got the minerals before and they'll do it again. Check out this great new rocknroll band called OUTRAZE - next big thing - no doubt!!!

great news, can't wait!!!

Some very bizarre comments here: Oasis are finished? Surely single placements 1, 1 & 2 for their last (number 1) album, plus a sell out world tour betray that. And WHY still these ridiculous comparisons with Albarn? Surely that was old by September 1995. There is no comparison anymore. Both him and Noel Gallagher are ridiculously talented, and there is room for both in everyone's iTunes.

A_Dis

Jun 25, 2008

elliotmarsh - why is it a ridiculous comparison? It's more valid than ever as Albarn was Noel's rival and has gone on to challenge himself and his audience. Noel has just released tired dad-rock copies of 'Morning Glory' to diminishing returns. Is the new one gonna be any different ? I really hope it is a belter - like I said I used to be a big fan...but I doubt it.Oh, and riverboat song, since when did big following neccessarily equal good music ? Rick Astley was big in the 80's!

October can't come soon enough!! Hopefully they come to the US soon, even tough I'm gonna sneak up to Canada to see them on the 1st week of Sept

Jun 25, 2008

Lipgloss - I hear what you are saying, and i'd been reading NME for several years before oasis were the next best thing, indeed I loved Oasis once, but went off them because I got fed up with the arrogance and the increasingly idsappointing albums. For a few years after, they probably did sell copies of the NME, but I'm not sure that still applies. As for the comparisons with damon Albarn from other people, both noel and Damon plow their own paths but whilst Damon may not sell as many records, he sets out to investiagte more different paths, and at least no-one can accuse Damon of treading the same old ground.

Hey ed2005, you are what is commonly referred to as a glory supportor as if your team are doin well you go all out and support with the rest them, but when they don't you turn your back with the rest, but the true fans remain .. granted the first 3 albums where good but to be honest SOTSOG is my favorite album as it conatins Gas Panic, where did it all go wrong, Sunday Morning Call and Roll it over, and one of the best Oasis B-sides Lets all make believe, to be honest i really like all their albums and i know this one is also gonna blow me away. Does anyone really give a shit about Damon Alburn??? --> NO --> SO i'll say it again COMMON OASIS best F**KIN Band in to the world bar none

charango man

Jun 26, 2008

Dig out your Soul? Why do Oasis insist on coming out with these ridiculous vague song titles. Definitely Maybe, Don't believe the Truth, What's the Story Morning Glory - they are all obvious and to be honest quite poor attempts to seem mysterious and philosophical. I love the band, but their continuation of the theme really does seem a bit pathetic and a cheap attempt at 'thinking man' status.
