Pier featured on Oasis single sleeve burns down

Weston-super-Mare's Grand Pier is on fire

The pier featured on the sleeve of Oasis' 'Roll With It' single has burnt down.

The Grand Pier at Weston-super-Mare, Somerset, was destroyed by a blaze which started around 7am (BST) this morning (July 28).

According to BBC Radio Bristol reporter Nigel Dando, who is at the scene, says it seems unlikely any of the structure will survive the inferno.

"There'll be nothing left after this fire," he told BBC News. "It's a desperately sad scene."

The pier featured in the background for the cover of Oasis' 1995 single (pictured), while the band themselves sat on the beach with television sets.

Oasis had been following in the footsteps of The Beatles, who were photographed on the beach wearing Victorian bathing costumes in 1963.
