Oasis' Noel Gallagher wishes Barack Obama was British

The guitarist bigs up US presidential candidate on his new blog

Oasis' Noel Gallagher has been writing a blog documenting his band's current US tour, in which he revealed that he wishes that US Democrat presidential candidate Barack Obama was British.

Gallagher explained that he watched Obama making his recent acceptance speech on US TV, which he felt particularly inspired by.

"Managed to catch that Barack Obama's speech to the Democratic rally," he wrote. "Impressive stuff. Spellbinding in fact. Wish he was one of ours. Why do Americans believe they're electing the president of THE WORLD though?"

In Noel Gallagher's blog, which is available to read on Oasisinet.com, the guitarist also revealed that he finds one of the most frustrating things about being on tour is fans constantly asking him for photos.

Writing about being in a hotel at the same time as a wedding, he wrote: "Some old lady approaches us to ask if we'd mind doing a 'quick picture' with the bride and groom! 'Erm… no, I don't think so' (who do they think we are? Robbie Williams?) 'Oh, go on, the bride will be heartbroken'. 'Good', I think to myself, and off we go to the venue."

Gallagher also reveals that he has spent at least one night on the tour bus drinking until well into the next morning, that he managed to find fish and chips in the States and that the band listen to Jimi Hendrix and Hawkwind on the bus.

I wish Obama was British too. Then they could elect him as Prime Minister and we wouldn't have to worry about the coming welfare state here in the US.Noel Gallagher writing a blog...? I remember when he used to say he didn't even know how to type or use a cell phone. I'm surprised he's doing it, to be honest, kind of wish he wasn't.

Why do people think musicians cant ever change their minds ? I remember when Oasis first came out and Liam said they want to bring out singles every 3 months and a new album every year. Of course they didnt.Noel might have said once years ago about he hates blogs/phones etc but so what ? That was in the past. Its like Noel/Liam cant ever change their mind on anything as someone will come up with 'well in 1998 he said....' ! Come on !

Does Oasis sponsor the NME or something? Every thought or random opinion from Noel seems to be added as the main Headline for the website, I thought the NME was about the music?

barrinho... Oasis drive sales of NME and visitors to the NME site, i.e. keeping them in business. Whatever people may think, Oasis are still one of the biggest bands on the planet!

To clarify, Noel did say he wanted no part of cell phones way back when the net was just growing into the monstrosity it is today, and when cellphones were just beginning to take hold on a worldwide basis (97-98 or so). Can't find the exact quote/news item as it's over ten years old. Weak, I know.I still don't get what's with the blog thing, he has said in the past that not only does he not own a computer but that hates them. He doesn't even know how to drive.

We don't believe we're electing the president of the world. Perhaps the British media is just portraying that way?

Believe me I was he was British too so he could be your Prime Minister. Alas, Noel is yet another celebrity lining up for the "messiah" Obama. At least his music is still good.

Oi. Why do the Brits always refer to Canada as the US? Those blogs are from the Canadian tour. They did one gig in the states then moved their way north....And I'm pleased they did. The Edmonton show was brilliant.

Sorry Bitches But he is our guyMaybe people feel like they are electing the president of the world because who we elect president has more of an effect on the rest of the world then say Tony Blair be it a positive or negative effectAmerica has great fish and chips on the coasts you just have to know where to look.. within 30 miles of the sea is a good start

He was up Tony Blair's arse a few years ago coz it was cool. Now he's up Barack Obama's arse coz it's cool. Pathetic. What makes people think Obama aint gonna renege on all the promises he's making like every other politician that gets real power??

mbe3204m, thanks so much for representing my nation in such an even-handed, compassionate manner. Feeding the hungry and teaching the illiterate IS for commies after all. Sheesh man.A thing though: Can ANY human being live up to the hype surrounding Obama? That's my biggest fear. There's a lot of unknowns here from both parties. It's a generally scary time.

as a brit, it is blindingly obvious that who the American president is has an affect on the rest of the world. It is obvious to anyone with a brain that Barack Obama is the man to do the job, and that John McCain obviously isn't.Let's hope the Republicans don't get in again, and let's hope that here in Britain we finally get a party that represent the people. New Labour have betrayed us, and I bet Noel wishes he hadn't endorsed them now.
