Ryan Adams compares new Oasis album to Radiohead

Singer says 'Dig Out Your Soul' is a revelation like 'Kid A'

Ryan Adams has compared the feel of Oasis' new album to Radiohead's most experimental work.

The singer, who supported Oasis when they kicked off their world tour in the US in August, says that 'Dig Out Your Soul' hit him the same way that the Oxford band's 2000 album 'Kid A' did.

"The first time I heard 'Kid A' I went 'OK, I have no fucking idea what kind of music this is but it's moving me. It sounds like a revelation.' That's what the new Oasis stuff sounds like it sounds like," Adams told The Quietus.com. "They have entered into some strange uncanny spiritual crazy door and have just lost themselves completely to it and it is marvellous."

Adams went on to praise frontman Liam Gallagher's songwriting on the new album – due out on October 6 – particularly after the criticism he received for his initial efforts on the 'Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants' album back in 2000.

"He is so abstract I can't believe how far he's come..." declared Adams. "[I said to him] 'Oh you know you could have stopped at 'Little James' for me and I would have been forever ruined in a perfect way . . . because the idea that like you just sort of went like 'I'm going to try this [songwriting] and your brother was so inspired by that', it's so beautiful you know."

That album better be good after all this hype. I'm still smarting from the overwhelming dullness of 'Don't Believe the Truth'. Almost broke my heart!

So. I'm not the type to use bittorrent. But i got word from a buddy that Dig out your soul was floating around on it. i pre-ordered the deluxe box set (put me back a 110 US dollars) so I figured hey...lets download it. So i did. It is fucking amazing. My only complaint is "I'm outta time." I love oasis don't get me wrong. I've been a diehard fan since 1996 or so. It's just (in my opinion)..i'm a little tired of the whole lennon-tribute style songs liam always seems to put together. Noel really did sort of venture out on his songs and andy bell's song at the end has an almost white stripes kinda sound to it. for fans who were impressed by the revitalized quality of Don't believe the truth..they REALLY will be blown away by Dig out your soul. i've been hooked on get off your high horse lady for a few days now. and it leads into falling down brilliantly (the footsteps through gravel are an interesting little build up). fucking A. Is it morally wrong for a real fan to download a leaked version if they ordered a deluxe one hundred dollar version of the album? I think not. I'm actually surprised nme hasn't covered the leak. i haven't made this up. search it up, kids

Every time oasis puts out a new record it s A: best one since definately maybe ( itself total shite) and B: more "experimental"..(ie some one plays the spoons in the background during a fade out...when will people notice that they are shit?

What does Ryan Adams know about "revelations" in music? He's been writing the same songs for ages. Oasis will never write an album that will surprise anyone. They could re-release Be Here Now under a different name and everyone would hail it as different. I wouldnt be so bitter if everyone just accepted that all the albums sound the same!!!

Out of interest, does anybody know if Ryan Adams is clean at the moment or is he back on the drugs? If he is then maybe that could account for what he thinks he's heard possibly...If Oasis' album is like Kid A then i will give £50 to charity I promise...Something tells me I can plan what to spend my £50 on.

rufoid, whats with the anti Ryan Adams comment for? He's absolute class. If anything Oasis should be supporting him on tour. cant wait for his new album with the cardinals. And mojo_pin, The Rutles are brilliant by the way. Check out the film...genius.

@jlong5000jesus, pull your tongue out of noel's arse would you? anyone who thinks anything oasis have done since morning glory is remotely decent needs to try and get out more. And while you're out, try sitting in a park. You'll hear lots of footsteps through gravel there - I hear it's interesting.

Ryan Adams aint my cup of tea. That better? As for the last comment of Kid A being shite. I expect wesley has a hearing deficiency. Oasis albums have all the appeal of listening to Good Charlotte. At least they change their sound every now and then. All i hear from Oasis is the same 4 chords (with a cut off beat in lyla). But dont get me wrong. Back in the day that was fine. It just gets properly boring when people hail their albums as 'revelations' in music. They are just Boyzone-esque albums written by a gy who can write a catchy chorus. David Sneddon anyone?

and midgeman. you were clearly reading the nme top albums of all time, which doesnt count for much. Rolling Stone Top 500 ------- 110. The Bends, Radiohead -------162. OK Computer, Radiohead ---------------------against 376. (What's the Story) Morning Glory?, Oasisneed i say more??

jlong5000 - I agree with nearly everything you said. A friend of mine burnt the album for me but i dont feel guilty at all as i have also ordered the deluxe box set. The only point i dont agree with is regarding"Im outta Time".. Its an absolutely amazing song - I realise people are gonna bang on about Liams Lennon obsession but so what - If songs like this come from it im not bothered in the slightest. Cant wait to hear it live as well - It will be played everywhere when this triumphant album comes out

"I did not compare the new “OASIS” songs from the show’s we were so lucky to share with OASIS to radiohead. I said “remember when radiohead kind of advanced or branched out- then made Kid A. Oasis are going further into unchartered territory "and" remaining true to who they are."- Ryan AdamsDon't listen to the media...

Oasis are the best british band this country has produced for years, why does everyone have to compare the albums, you can only write the same album once despite what some of the geeks on here say (Rufoid). And to compare Radiohead to Oasis....Radiohead are the most bland and soul destroyingly depressing band ive ever heard, Oasis brought guitar music back from the dead, Radiohead give albums away for free....congratulations.
