Sir Cliff's fans accuse the Manchester band of taking inspiration from their idol

Fans of Sir Cliff Richard have accused Oasis of ripping off their idol.

Users on internet forums have claimed that 'The Turning', the second track on the Manchester band's new album, 'Dig Out Your Soul', out today (October 6), is similar to Richard's 1976 song 'Devil Woman'.

Click on the video below to hear 'Devil Woman'. 'The Turning' can be heard at MySpace.com/oasis.

"This is a rip-off," claimed one forum poster. "What'll they do next? Remix 'Mistletoe And Wine'?"

Janine Castle of the International Cliff Richard Movement, was more positive about the supposed similarity, telling the Daily Mirror, "I'm astounded Oasis used Cliff as their muse - but delighted."

The similarities are astounding! Next you'll be telling me Waiting for the Rapture sounds like The Doors Five to One. I have to say, i'm more intrigued by Sir Cliffs trouser bulge... that's definately one to compete with Bowie!

What would Cliff richard fans be doing listening to Oasis? This story is clearly a load of bollocks.

They should have ripped off 'Wired for Sound' and had a video featuring Liam and Noel on roller skates.

They've ripped off everyone. At least when they ripped off Imagine (don't look back..., Get it on (cigs and Alcohol, The solo from Stairway to heaven (Live forever) they did it with swagger, now they do it because they have lost all creativity. Their last video again with the same old Beatles imagery, but this time they decided to rip off the stones cover for Hot rocks at the beginning of the vid as well. I'm glad it didn't go to number one. I think it's their worst first single release from any album. Can they not come up with any original ideas at all? I think all they think about is the money now. They're about as far removed from their Burnage roots at it is possible to get. It's a slick money making machine, that's all. They've become a cliche of themselves, maybe they became a cliche ten years ago.Not in a great rush to buy the new album. They haven't written a bonafide hit that can compete with their first two albums, and they probably never will.

Noel's songwriting went downhill when he stopped ripping songs off. Whatever is both a great Oasis song and a complete ripoff of How Sweet to be an Idiot by Neil Innes.

Haha the verses are exactly the same. Mind you, it wouldn't be the first time Oasis stole other people's music. This once again proves how unoriginal a band they are

i don't see that much of a similarity. I agree with lipgloss however, about "waiting for the rapture" sounding like the door's song. There is more of a similarity in those two tracks, in my opinion. hang on let me get comfortable...oasis postings on nme.com always bring the hate.

I think it is a rip off - but who cares. Recycling of a great song and the track is probably the best one on Lightning. A few other Cliff riffs worth pinching here http://popjunkietv.wordpress.com/2008/10/07/five-other-cliff-richard-classics-oasis-might-like-to-ahem-borrow/

Yeah,Oasis are shit aren't they?selling 50 million albums and all,geez.Ptchh.Go listen to CSS jerkoffs.Even if they did 'rip it off',at least they made it better. And orangeboy,Don't look back.. was SUPPOSED to use the beginning of Imagine,it was a tribute to John Lennon.Oasis forever!

And I really don't think The Turning sounds like Devil Woman either. The only thing they have in common is that they're probably in the same key.And fuck me if that counts as ripping off.
