Oasis' 'Dig Out Your Soul' a cert for Number One

Band enjoy massive first day album sales

Oasis sold nearly 90,000 copies of new album 'Dig Out Your Soul' after its release yesterday (October 6), making it one of the year's fastest first-day sellers.

The band's seventh studio album had sold 89,434 copies by the end of the day.

According to midweek figures, at close of business yesterday the album was outselling the current Number One, Kings Of Leon's 'Only By The Night', by nearly five units to one.

It means the band are a virtual certainty to be Number One on Sunday (October 12).

Meanwhile Oasis kick off their UK tour tonight (October 7) in Liverpool, at the Echo Arena. Stay tuned to NME.COM for a full report.

fairly speaking, album sales doesn't tell you much of how good or bad an album is. but it does says the band (in this case oasis), are (still) relevant.

I Disagree with Noeling.Album sales just shows that their marketing team is still very effective...and working hard! The Rolling Stones had number one albums (or thereabouts) way after they became irrelevant.Oasis are totally irrelavant now - they became rock dinosaurs quite fast, unfortunately.Dig Out Your Soul is yet another disappointing album, full of tired cliches and less-than-memorable tunes. I used to love Oasis but they lost "it" long ago.Of course, they still have many fans who, thanks to their canine loyalty, still buy their albums and think they're still good. To each their own, i guess. But today, by coincidence, i was listening to their live cover of "Helter Skelter" and it just highlighted to me how tiresome they have become - the Beatles original was raw, exciting rock music that really pushed the sonic boundaries at the time, and still sounds bloody awesome. The Oasis version sounds bloated, polished, over-indulgent and quite boring.Quite frankly, some bands ARE better off when they are on drugs than when they become boring millionaire dads with houses in Spain...

I think oasis deserve all the success they get with this album, Of course oasis are still relevent, bands are forming as we speak because of them. The beatles,Stones, The Who (i could go on and on) All made slightly dodgy albums but the legacy left by these bands means they will always be relevent. Love em or hate em Oasis will always inspire youngsters to pick up an instrument so at the end of the day Relevent they certainly are.

Billy Bones, sadly you have no idea what you are talking about! If you think the new Oasis album sounds like anything they have done before you really need to open your ears. Fordy summed it up when he said the majoirty of bands out there now list Oasis as there major influence. I bet on a dozen new albums showing up that all sound like Dig Out Your Sole, and why is that? Because they are irrelevant? no i dont think so!!

im dissappointed with the new album. i just feel Oasis dont write the songs that touch or mean anything to people anymore. when was the last time you could say that Oasis wrote a song that you could relate to? for me thats what makes a great album. and you'd have to got back to the first 3 albums to find that. yea they will inspire youngsters to pick up an instrument but i think only by the early Oasis tunes. you look at bands now..say the courteeners and their songs do touch people and you can relate to the songs the way Oasis use to do. maybe Oasis have just grown old .one more thing.. LIAM YOUR STILL COOL AS F**K .

Of course Oasis are still relevant, they have a bloody sell-out tour which i nearly couldn't get fucking tickets for,and their songs made music history. And I don't care if people think they're a 'Beatles ripoff'-yeah,they have a heavy Beatles influence at times, but Oasis also make great classic songs in their own right. And it was Noel who got me to pick up a guitar, not any of the Beatles, though I love them too.

billy bones... what a tosser.you have far too much to say and its you who is irrelevant you tit.oasis always have and always will make great music, thats what great bands do. your not a fan, you never were, your a dick. they inspire people to be musicians, its been said and its proven. their music has an influence on people, it relates to them and real issues. so why dont you go listen to the shit you listen to and stop pretending your some kind of music critic talking all your marketing bollocks matewell deserved lads, cant wait to see you this weekend

Billy Bones, welcome to 2000. Oasis haven't touched Helter Skelter in a long time mate. Whether you like it or not, Oasis are still relevant. The marketing of this album has nothing to do with it, as I am yet to see an advert for the album on the television. The Rolling Stones got a number one album down to the vast majority of their fans still being around now, much like how Oasis are still relevant now and a new generation of fans are picking up Definitely Maybe and (What's The Story) Morning Glory? just to see what the fuss was about in 1994-96. DOYS is the best album Oasis have done since BHN. Like it or not, Oasis are back and are here to stay. Bring on another ten years of noise and confusion.

I cannot stop listening to the album. Bag It Up especially is so addictive! The album is in the top 3 on the US itunes chart, so it's doing well here too!

There is no point in comparing Oasis & The Beatles musically, they are completely different bands. Oasis have never set out to be progressive or groundbreaking, they have always been about straight rock'n'roll and just havin' it! The Beatles were a one off, but they weren't as original as people think they were, most of the time they just brought to the mainstream what was happening in the underground scenes at the time, but obviously no denying that they were miles ahead of everyone else in the game. The music scene is all the better for having both The Beatles & Oasis but for different reasons. Dig Out Your Soul is fucking immmense!!

Some interesting opinions here, i agree with some that Oasis are past their best, i absolutely loved them in the 90's, but their music has been somewhat declining over the years. Having said that i would give this album 7/10 as i think it has some real decent moments, like The Turning, Bag it Up and Falling down. These songs remind you why you found their music so appealing in the first place. Their is no doubting their influence to music today, i dont think any band nowadays could release anything as good or important as Definately Maybe or Morning Glory, they were just monumental and will always be timeless! Good effort with the latest album boys.

As the demon-ted rightfully pointed out, Oasis inspire people because of their (GREAT, btw) early material. Not because of what they do NOW. Thus, the music they make now is irrelevant, and so is the band.I can't believe people can be so passionate about ageing, millionaire rock stars! Ben 89 sounds like a pathetic peasant sucking Oasis royal cock.Once, a long time ago, Noel Gallagher wrote great songs, because he was a nobody, a dreamer who wanted to get out of burnage and wrote songs that really meant something. Songs that still inspire people.I get the feeling now they just do music for the sake of it, its Oasis by numbers all the way. meaningless, empty. How many new bands will get inspired by their most recent albums? Not many - and if they do, they'll be shit bands! Some people need to wise up - just because a band was once great doesn't mean they'll always be great, doesn't mean you gotta buy every single new album. One thing is to be a fan, the other is to be an idiot who buys into a band's myth and willing gives their hard-earned money to a bunch of lazy millionaires! When i say i love the Rolling Stones, i totally mean it, but only the early stuff. Dont care what they do now. Same with Oasis. Love their early stuff, don't give a crap about the newer material.BTW - i'm always, because I really liked Oasis, always curious to hear new Oasis material, but as of lately i have always been disappointed. Dig Out Your Soul? They lost their soul, man...

i think anyone who slags oasis off should f*ck right off!!! simple as!i dont agree that KOL are sh1t either cos they're not, far from it, they are a talented band. other than oasis they're probably one of the only bands around at the moment that are relevant ! 2 ace new albums by both! comparisons between this album and, for example, Def Maybe are unfounded. it's unfair to compare a bands present day work to such a high musical peak that will probably never be reached again (by them OR any other band)!! most bands could never even dream of gettin anywhere near this let alone actually writing an album like it. this new album is ace and would still EASILY sit top of the pile in the back catalagoue of any of the other mediocre and meaningless bands around today !seein the boys sat (sheffield), tues (brum) and fri (london) and i'm ready to f*ckin AVE IT!!!!!

can people please listen to the album before they criticise, dig out your soul is a musical masterpiece and if you dont like it, you probably dont deserve to listen to music.the new album is great, definitely their best since be here now, or maybe even morning glory, i reckon im outta time could be the next wonderwall.the shock of the lightning is awesome, especially the remix, the turning is unlike anything theyve done before, no guitar, which is proper risky, and to be where theres life is great!it deserves to stay at number one, the british people have already made the mistake of keeping pink at number 1 in the singles charts, at least the album chart is more respectful

The thing is they are human like the rest of us and they are getting old but still rocking man. Ok albums like definetly maybe or whats the story will never happen again but u tell me have other bands made a album like them even then have they written better ones with more meaning to them afterwards no i dont think so. They are 2 great albums which will be remembered for as long as i will be alive. They were literally 2 big in many ways. Most music that comes out these days dont even compare to oasis masterplan which is a B-side album its that good. These days the kaiser chiefs actually think they are better which is a joke cause in my opinion and probably many others even the worst oasis album is better than any kaisers droning of ruby, ruby, ruby, i predict a riot and many of there other continuous lyrics. Music has changed a lot over past decade but many of it still has oasis inside it somewhere. (ie) arctic monkeys even pete doherty has influences of noel. Lets just say the new album is no DM, but its better than the rest of stuff in chats today. Last thing look at kings of leon. youth and youngmanhood was raw unique and there best album to date, but i have heard there new album which is ok but no where near that standard just more radio worthy. (question to readers; can anyone tell me which bands have albums which are not there first 2 but there best yet?)

Oasis are at their best when liams singing, with anger and passion. its a shame he finds it hard with words as i think his songs on 'DOYS' are so close to the Oasis tunes we all love. energy and b*ll*cks. i'm outta time. simple lyrics and another classic. it took 9 years to write. maybe thats why it stands out so much cos thats when Oasis were mad for it.ya get me bebyface .

Its true, dig out your soul is a joke and oasis are a parody. I heard the album and on every single song, guess what, they stole something from the beatles. The list is endless, but here are a few. Helter skelter, a day in the life, strawberry fields, dear prudence. Its endless. I never knew thety had gone into sampling these days. A band that has no originality and anyone who rates this album clearly knows nothing about music or the beatles. I gave the album to a charity shop, an absolute joke. They are plagiarists and always have been.
