Oasis' Noel Gallagher has slammed reality TV show 'The X Factor' – but has defended the contestants who take part in the show.

The guitarist singled out TV judge Dannii Minogue for criticism, suggesting she was unqualified to identify talent among contestants.

He told the Radio Times that 'The X Factor' had "absolutely nothing to do with music and everything to do with television".

He added that he didn't blame contestants for wanting their shot at fame.

"If somebody is dangling this carrot of 'fame and fortune' in front of a checkout girl who can sing like Britney Spears then they're going to go for it, right?" he said.

He added: "You're going in at the top, with a Number One that sells 750,000 or whatever and you've got someone like Dannii Minogue telling you you're really talented – and if there's one person in the room who wouldn't know talent if it kicked them in the arse it's Dannii Minogue."

thevoiceofraisin, i think its more the other way round. Oasis & Oasis related news has always shifted a hell of a lot more copies of NME and will also draw more internet traffic. Im sure people will soon realise it saves time reading articles they're interested in than commenting on articles they're not interested in.

I'll tell you why Noel seems to have an opinion on everything, it's because he's promoting a tour and an album. Therefore he does a lot of interviews, which NME add to their site as it attracts alot of hits. So all those people who are complaing stop clicking on the stories and leaving your opinions and maybe NME will stop posting them!

The thing is, why do you even read this article let alone post on it if you don't care what Gallagher says! :D I for one do care, their the biggest and best band in the world for me and were fuckin' brilliant live last night in Birmingham, so if you don't care about them do one! and go and post on shit bands like AC/DC's thread! wellduhobviously, by far the most hillarious comment on here is yours, you complete twat. Proud Mary were (and still are) a fantastic band. Their first album is easily one of the best debuts in years. Not one bad track on there. You're probably one of those knobheads that think they were dropped or that Noel ignored them after the first record, when in fact they only had a contract for one album with his label. Proud Mary are head & shoulders above the majority of crap thats around these days. New album on the way, hopefully more exposure will be gained.

I'm not quite getting all these claims of oasis being "not relevant" anymore. How can they not be "relevant"? They put out albums as consistently as they ever have, they tour the world, so what's the issue? As for the claim of "dad rock", is it cause they're older? Does that imply you're assigning age to good music? Tis a shame.

I would say that having a number one album and a sold-out tour would certainly make it seem apparent that Oasis are as popular and relevant as ever. dad rock? so what? If you enjoy it, as millions do, then get involved. If Oasis bother you, then keep your distance and don't bother with them. to take the time out of your day to post a blog then claim you dont care about something seems like a bit of a contradiction and also a bit sad. Noel's right to say this, but Dannii's seems to be doing something right by getting paid lots of money to nod her head occasionally and say a few scripted comments to the tragic wannabes on the show. Although I would love to see Liam, Noel and Simon Cowell judge the X-Factor for one show, would be hilarious!

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Oasis and Noel Gallagher, I listen to The Russell Brand Show every week and think Noel is one of the best bits but it does strike me as odd that everything he says is front-page NME news, especially when it's not even controversial. Something's going on, whether it's just lazy journalism or some sort of deal to keep NME readership above double figures or to keep Oasis in the news.

Noel is saying what the majority of people are thinking!! i reakon there should be a different way of going about it, like split the music into differ catagories; punk, rock, rap, indie etc... and let the viewers vote - why should people's future be put into the hands of a couple of judges? especually dannii being one of them!!

TimesUp, fair comment i won't argue ;) anyway as for the other idiots, have you heard yourselves? it's just laughable. I've just turned 19 and their my favourite band in the world, as are they with a lot of other "youngsters", the Dad rock comments are a joke. As for the irrelevant comments. IF YOU DON'T CARE DON'T POST IT'S NOT FUCKING ROCKET SCIENCE, he's obviously the most important man in music as everytime he opens his mouth on here he gets 50 comments, not even Paul McCartney or Robert Planet get close to that ;)
