Oasis' Noel Gallagher: 'Amy Winehouse is wiped out by fame'

Guitarist speaks about the trials and tribulations of the music biz

Oasis' Noel Gallagher has said that he thinks Amy Winehouse has been "wiped out" by fame.

The guitarist told Time Out that he felt he coped with success well, but that how you react to it depends on your personality.

"I'm not embarrassed by wealth or fame or stardom," he said. "It's what I was born to do.

"For some people that level of fame can hit you really fuckin' hard. I'm not having a go at her, but the likes of Amy Winehouse have been wiped out by that.

"Whether people would care to admit it or not, that's fame that's done that. Sometimes people think they're not worthy of it, so they build a shell around themselves which cannot be penetrated."

Oasis are currently on a UK tour following the recent release of their seventh album, 'Dig Out Your Soul'. They play the London Wembley Arena tomorrow and Friday night (October 16 and 17).

never_stop_shaving - Stop reading his posts and leaving comments then you complete plank. If people don''t leave comments they (NME) won't keep putting up comments by him.

Spot on Lipgloss :-). White Widow, if you DON'T care they WHY post, really?, actually why even read the article? :-) in fact NME should put a headline above each Oasis comment stating this. Anyway I care, I'd like a hotline to Gallagher actually so at work I could ring him and ask him his opinions on things. Fuck Status Quo there shit! haha. Best band in the world for me and fuckin' amazing in Brum on Monday night :-)

I think a spot-on comment from Noel. Truely he can talk shit fantastically but there is a also a bit of wisdom there that cant be denied. I mean think of the lifestyle and life the man has had. Probably more famous than for longer than any other of his contempories and he's has never had a 'winehouse' breakdown. Give a little credit that the man never went off the deep end (although maybe creatively he has been sitting on the edge for a while)Really i reckon noel is pretty smart but like john mccain has to give the impression of being meathead to keep his fans happy and idiotic. I love oasis by way. new album 6/10. preferrred DBTT
