Noel Gallagher: 'I've written next Oasis album and started solo record'

Guitarist steaming ahead with the follow-up to 'Dig Out Your Soul'

Oasis' Noel Gallagher has revealed that he has written and demo-ed his band's next album and has got the ball rolling for his solo album.

The guitarist told Billboard that songs set for the follow-up to the band's recently-released seventh album 'Dig Out Your Soul' include 'I Want to Live in a Dream In My Record Machine' and 'Come On It's Alright'.

He described the two songs as "psychedelic epics", and said he planned to recruit a choir to contribute vocals to them.

Gallagher said the new material echoed the work of The Kinks. "They all seem to be based around the same four or five chords," he expalined. "It's vastly different from what ['Dig Out Your Soul'] is."

He added: "There's stuff about soldiers and religious people and rock stars and travellers. They seem to be all songs about people, but not people I know. And they all seem to have a narrative; it's kind of like a story which follows on from song to song."

Speaking about his solo album plans, Gallagher said: "I'm going to do one sooner or later – hopefully sooner rather than later.

"I'm kind of hoping Liam might be arrested soon, and then I'll have time to see it through."

Oasis recently announced details of a UK stadium tour for summer 2009.

Oasis will play:

Manchester Heaton Park (June 4, 6, 7)
Sunderland Stadium Of Light (10)
Cardiff Millennium Stadium (12)
Edinburgh Murrayfield Stadium (17)
Dublin Slane Castle (20)
Coventry Ricoh Arena Stadium (July 7)
London Wembley Stadium (9, 11, 12)

Finally. Noel's solo work could possibly be his best album and the fact they're finally going to release I wanna Live in a dream. .

There are many Oasis-loathers out there. And no doubt that they will pour their scorn over this piece of information. It seems like admitting that you like Oasis, will cause the mob to gather, light the torches, and start a good ol' lynching. Having said that, I'm glad to hear that the Gallagher's are working on their 8th studio album, and delighted to hear that Noel finally seems to put his money where his mouth is and record his long overdue solo album. Because even though many don't like it, Oasis is one of the most influential bands out there. Some say also one of the most overrated ones, but still... Looking forward to seeing them in January!

I have to say, I've been an Oasis since they started and I don't like the new album either. Hopefully the next one will be completely different and actually rock and roll.

Should be good. Drop the monkey with the tambourine I say! Performing chimps should be for zoos only.

What makes me laugh is you get all these Oasis haters out there who slag off the new album. The question is if you hate them so much why even listen to the new album? Because you know deep down they are still influential are can still make great music.

perhaps he could finish writing 'dig out your soul' first? theres a melody shortage going on there.

He is never going to make a solo album, and he is just gonna go on and on bragging about him doing, but he's not gonna.

i think the new record is their best in 10 years! the first 6 songs are classics.....with the juices flowing they should definately carry on with new material, they are on fire, artistically speaking at the moment, just do it Noel, this is your chance to seal the legend!

glad the next album could be totally different with a psychedelic feel, especially wanna live in a dream... but i think the solo stuff should just be kept for b-sides as there simply havent been enough b-sides last, or this time around (so far) - lets face it though, neither of these will be happening soon and earliest i can see a whole new oasis album is 2010, so no point get too excited

The thing is, he has said in interviews, he talks about a solo record "to piss Liam off", personally I'd love it to happen, but I just can't see it. By the way Noel, lets not wait another three years for another album. How about another Masterplan next year, with B Sides from Standing On The Shoulders, Heathen, Don't Believe The Truth and Dig Out Your Soul!!

Of course he has, it's akin to printing money, the more god awful drivel he releases, the richer he gets. So when his solo album comes out and it's exactly the same as every Oasis album, with different words over the top, will people realise they suck? Probably not methinks
