Oasis' Noel Gallagher slams Mick Hucknall after Manchester comment

Noel says Mick’s comments are 'irrelevant'

Oasis' Noel Gallagher has responded to comments made by Simply Red's Mick Hucknall about Manchester, saying his opinion is "irrelevant".

In an interview Hucknall had referred to comedian Harry Enfield's TV sketch in which actress Kathy Burke visits the city, home of Liam and Noel Gallagher, and comes back with a Liam-esque swagger. He suggested that the band had contributed to people holding negative stereotypes of Mancunians.

Noel delivered an open letter to The Sun, slamming Hucknall.

"You still going?" he wrote. "The last time I heard of you, Fanta-pants, you were getting slung out of Knebworth for being shit and fat. What you have to say about Manchester and its righteous natives is irrelevant as you are from Warrington."

Noel and Liam are set to carry boxer Ricky Hatton’s belts to the ring tonight (November 22) in Las Vegas before he fights Paulie Malignaggi.

I tell ya, that Noel Gallagher, he's one hard bloke. I think Mick Should ask our Knowall how many US Number Ones he has had and see what reply he gets. 2-0 to Hucknall me thinks.

'righteous', this is exactly what Hucknall's talking about.... Noel is so far up his own arse, his nose is brown, and if he could pull it out and smell the **** that going down... it's that Hucknall's right, and Simply Red are GREAT (for reminscing purposes that is)... and Oasis are 10 years out of a date...HUCKNALL 2, NOEL GALLAGHER 0

Do people still give a damn what Noel Gallagher says? He flogs the same music for 10 years and it wasn't even that good in the first place. Someone should tell the Mancunian monobrowed idiot that just because someone isn't from Manchester doesn't mean their comments are "irrelevant"

I don't think either mick hucknall or noel gallagher are particularly good adverts for manchester. Both Gallagher brothers are under the mistaken attitude that being 'hard' is a good thing and is important, and Hucknall is also painfull egotistical. Hucknall's at least got the grace to say he'll retire in two years. maybe Oasis should quit before they soil the good memories any more. NEITHER SIMPLY RED NOR OASIS MATTER ANY MORE. FACT. PERIOD. END OF STORY.

Who gives a toss what Noel has to say? Give up, split up and fuck off!

People on here saying Noel Gallagher has been writing the same music for 10 years? Never! I'd never expect those comments in a million years from some of the people registered on this site. You'll all be using that great argument about 'Oasis not being relevant' any more any time now as well. I think the fact Oasis sold out their arena tour in roughly an hour and then shifted half a million tickets for next Summers stadium shows in about 7 hours speaks volumes of how 'irrelevant' they really are. More bands should release the same music for 10 years like Noel Gallagher has... then maybe the British music scene would be miles better than it is at the minute.

Mick Hucknell is shit and fat.

For fuck's sake joebaia, nobody's saying that Oasis are unpopular - they are saying they are boring and irrelevant. Two different things entirely. Going on about how many stadiums they've sold out is pointless. Do you really think the Stones are still relevant despite selling shedloads of tickets when they tour? What about Take That - they've sold out most of their shows recently. Oasis are contributing nothing to the British Music scene currently - their music is stuck in a timewarp. People are going to their shows purely for nostalgia. Oh, and if the Electric Proms was anything to go by - Liam's voice is shot to pieces.

Hucknell has a cheek, he lives in a Massive mansion in Surrey, complete with lakes, and a posh Pad in Italy. The one abiding memory of Hucknell is that he smells of Sugar Puffs dipped in luke warm piss. And fuck me, what do women see in him.

smithy0701, same here! what would the NME be without Oasis? "Doherty is on junk again and alex james is addicted to cheese!" There's atleast three comments on here saying nobody cares what Noel says, slightly ironic considering they've taken the time to read the story and comment... you may not like Noel, but your actions suggest he is still very much relevant! In the words of Musicismyhothotsex08 "Give up and fuck off"

Well said A_Dis - popularity is usually just an indication of how gullible the public are. It would be like saying that the Sun is the voice of Great Britain. It might be the most popular newspaper but it doens't mean it's not a rag.

Nov 25, 2008

A_Dis... I think you know you're wrong. The Stones still are relevant. As are The Beatles and The Kinks and The Who and any other great band that helped shape Britain's musical landscape. If it wasn't for these bands where would music be today? Just because a band recorded music 40 years ago doesn't render them irrelevant. If millions of people are still interested in something or someone... it's relevant trust me. And by the way... like it or not... Take That are ridiculously relevant to pop music. To think otherwise is pure ignorance just because you may not like them and because they're a boyband. Also... ed2005... popularity is just an indication of how gullible people are? So nothing that's popular is good then? Idiot.

MartynDavenport

Nov 25, 2008

By Jove I think he's got it! "So nothing that's popular is good then?" That's generally how it works. It doesn't mean the band were never good, but when it becomes more popular, it's nearly always because it's been diluted and crafted to sell more. The rule that almost always works is that the album before a band's breakthrough album is nearly always their best by far. Go on, think of some bands and try it. I wonder when the last time was that someone bacame a fan of Oasis because they heard them and thought "that's awesome"? Instead of being told they're good by someone they judge to be "cooler" than them and jumping on the bandwagon?

Sorry Joe but I still think you're getting confused. Oasis last made a great record in '96, the Stones in '72 and Take That have released a couple of ok-ish singles in the past, but are generally cack. Why is it that the setlists for Oasis/Stones gigs are top-heavy with stuff from their heyday? If Oasis had released anything decent in the last 12 years they wouldn't need to rely on so many songs from DM and WTSMG. If you're relying on the music you made ages ago...then you are no longer relevant - you are a greatest hits cabaret act...simple as that. Of course popular music doesn't equal rubbish but there are an awful lot of middle aged housewives buying X-Factor dross. Using your logic, Eoghan Quigg is the future of the British music industry.

joebaia

Nov 26, 2008

So you're saying that generally speaking... whatever is popular isn't that good? Sorry but what does that make less popular music or completely unpopular music? Just because someone gets told to listen to a band because their mate tells them they're 'cool' or 'great' or whatever... doesn't make the band any less great... that's just absurd. This rule basically says for the most part any band that has become huge isn't really that good. Jesus... someone should tell Mick and Keef that they're not that good. Shall I give Sir Paul a ring and tell him The Beatles were actually a bit shit? Makes me laugh how because someone doesn't like a band that is hugely successful they just believe their fans are stupid. Bitter much?

joebaia

Nov 26, 2008

Oasis last made a great record in '96 and The Stones in '72? That's just fact is it A_Dis? Let's face it... Oasis' first 2 albums were good enough for them to retire on. In my opinion there's not been any greater albums released since them. Just my opinion of course. So of course they're going to play a lot of songs off them at live shows. However... to dismiss everything else since then as cack is just ignorance. The last 2 albums have been a big step in a new musical direction... especially 'Dig Out Your Soul' which I think is their 3rd best album. Because their first 2 albums were so amazing... everything else they release gets unfairly compared to them if it's not AS good. If any of their other albums had been released without DM and WTSMG preceeding them... they'd be heralded a lot more than they have been. But unfortunately many short sighted critics can't see past this. X Factor is something entirely different and basically an animal unto itself. The popularity of the contestants is more to do with the people themselves rather than their actual abilities. Sure... there are some hugely popular bands who I don't care for and don't think are that good... but it's just a matter of taste rather than me stating that they are shite FACT.
