Noel Gallagher: 'Damon Albarn is a great artist'

Oasis star brands their feud 'pathetic'

Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher has called his former rival Damon Albarn a "great artist".

The star, embroiled in a bitter war of words with the Blur frontman during the 1990s, has finally laid their feud to rest in an interview with The Guardian, branding it "pathetic".

Of the feud, which centred on the chart battle between their rival singles 'Roll With It' and 'Country House', Gallagher said: "Looking back now that fight's all so pathetic over two really quite shit pop songs. He's a great artist.

"He's different from me. I'm not an artist – for me, it just comes out. He does Chinese operas and that kind of thing, he's got more strings to his bow than I'll ever have."

However, asked whether the pair got on, he admitted: "There's always been something between me and him, and I don't know what it is."

I bet even something like this will get heaps or criticism from the people who complain about Noel Gallagher constantly, only adding to the comments these stories get, and hence encouraging more Noel-updates to be posted.Anyway, I'm a fan, I like Damon Albarn, and as usual it's complete honesty from Gallagher senior which, more often than not, makes sense.. Harsh on Roll With It, mind.

Good work Noel! It takes a man to admit his weaknesses and when he has been an idiot. It's vital for the longevity of the band oasis to start acting more like people and understand you are rich and famous because of luck and a lie. How many bands lie to get a record deal ? and then succeed . I think the oasis brothers reputation has to change in order for them to matter in 40 years time. People of the future simply won't wanna listen to them based on how idiotic and spoiled and egotistic they have been since they got a taste of MTV life $$ and tour busses . Change or be forgotten by the rest of the world over time.

fair play for him to acknowledge it, for oasis may have had the edge in the 90s but damon's recent projects have all been superior - monkey opera was so far out the box and a great great show at the same time!

I think the interview is a very honest interview and as usual, Mr G talks alot of sense. People are still interested in Oasis and what Noel has to say. He says it himself in the interview, Oasis will be around for a while yet, regardless of whether people like them or not. I'm a massive Oasis fan but also a big Blur fan, both Noel and Damon have had great careers so far. Yes Damon is very diverse and I'm glad Noel has acknowledged that. However MllaDumpsPaul, it's not a weakness of Noels that he isn't as diverse as Damon, Noel simply does what he does and has done it very well over the last 15 years or so. I guess he feels he doesn't need to change anything. Long may both these artists continue. Fingers crossed for Blur reunion tour next year too!!

Good to hear Noel finally growing up about the Blur and Oasis argument, shame it took over 12 yrs to do so.

I read that article at the weekend and was mightily impressed. The fact that the guy has given up on the heavy partying, taken stock and apologised for acting like a coked up p***k in the past has changed my opinion of him totally. There's nothing worse than a coke bore especially the blizzard that's blowing through this country at present. I used to think the guy was a prize tosser, now I'll give him my ear!

OK< I have been critical of Noel Gallagher on these pages, but fair play to him. Maybe him not getting on with Damon is just a personality clash, it can happen. Here's to hoping Blur DO reform, and here's hoping that Oasis can prove me wrong and produce another album as good as their first two.

fair play to Noel, must be a hard thing to say, what with Damon and Alex being such pretentious pricks! Blur, excellent band, shit people!
