Oasis' Liam Gallagher: 'Heaton Park will better Knebworth'

Singer speaks about forthcoming hometown gigs

Oasis' Liam Gallagher has claimed that his band's forthcoming shows at Manchester's Heaton Park may better their infamous 1996 gigs at Knebworth.

On August 10 and 11 that year Oasis played two Knebworth shows before a combined audience of 250,000, and are set to play the huge Heaton Park in their native city on Thursday (June 4), Saturday (6) and Sunday (7).

Gallagher told the Manchester Evening News that he was confident the new gigs would match up to last decade's landmark shows.

"In total seriousness, I reckon these gigs have the potential to be even better than the Knebworth shows," he said.

He added: "It's been a top year for the band, and we're approaching these gigs at the top of our game. My mind is totally on it. With those Knebworth gigs, we were off our heads and we totally sped into it.

"With these Heaton Park gigs, we're more breezing into these gigs. It's not so chaotic. We're a miles better band than we were at Knebworth and Maine Road (the former Manchester City ground where they played in April 1996), and we'll show it. People will have their heads blown off."

Following the Manchester shows Oasis will play further UK gigs in Sunderland, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Coventry and London.

Autumnstone, when will you wake up!!! Oasis are relevant, sold more tickets to more gigs than ever before, as in demand as they were in the 90's, these are facts, yours is merely opinion and more to the point the opinion of only a very small amount of people, see ticket sales for verification, thank you and see all the proper fans at Heaton Park.

I'll be there at Heaton Park. It's no normal gig, this is pilgrimage for Oasis fans. The chance to see GOD (Noel) perform where it all started. Oasis are playing to 750k this summer, no one else could do that. We all know, deep down, Oasis destroy any other band that has ever existed.

Granted, it is my opinion... I love Oasis, going to wembley in the summer, but when I saw them at Electric Proms Liams voice was dog shit!!! Everyone knows it hasn't got the same rasp and impact!!! Right...? To say that they are not important is bollocks as ticket sales prove me wrong... it's just they seem to be rollling along in the big fat rock and roll gravy train now... Just wish I was 16 again on the road to Knebworth back in 1996.... They are still the greatest....
