Oasis triumph at second Manchester Heaton Park show

Stone Roses and New Order men watch hometown gig

Oasis triumphed at the second of three hometown summer gigs at Manchester's Heaton Park last night (June 6).

The Gallaghers played an impressive set at the venue, avoiding the technical problems which beset the first show of the run on Thursday (June 4).

The crowd, which included model Agyness Deyn, New Order bassist Peter Hook and The Stone Roses and Primal Scream man Mani, managed to avoid the heavy rain predicted by weather forecasters.

The Enemy returned to the bill after pulling out of Thursday's gig due to singer Tom Clarke's illness.

The Coventry band played a rabble-rousing set, including last single 'No Time For Tears' and debut album tracks 'You're Not Alone' and 'Away From Here'.

Locals Twisted Wheel also provided support, along with Free Peace and Kasabian.

Taking to the stage at 8.45pm (BST), Oasis launched into 'Rock 'N' Roll Star', instantly getting the 70,000 crowd jumping.

The rockers were on top form, sticking to the same set that garnered eventual success on Thursday and leading mass sing-alongs to 'Roll With It', 'Cigarettes And Alcohol' and 'Wonderwall'.

Frontman Liam Gallagher left the stage at numerous points, allowing brother Noel to take lead vocal duties on 'Half The World Away' and fan favourite 'Don't Look Back In Anger'.

The set also included a smattering of tracks from recent album 'Dig Out Your Soul', including 'I'm Outta Time' and 'Waiting For The Rapture'.

A cover of The Beatles' 'I Am The Walrus' was the group's customary set closer, leaving the jubilant hometown crowd in raptures.

Oasis played:

'Rock 'N' Roll Star'
'Lyla'
'The Shock Of The Lightning'
'Roll With It'
'Cigarettes And Alcohol'
'The Meaning Of Soul'
'To Be Where There's Life'
'Waiting For The Rapture'
'The Masterplan'
'Songbird'
'Slide Away'
'Morning Glory'
'My Big Mouth'
'The Importance Of Being Idle'
'Half The World Away'
'I'm Outta Time'
'Wonderwall'
'Live Forever'
'Supersonic'
'Don't Look Back In Anger'
'Falling Down'
'Champagne Supernova'
'I Am The Walrus'

Oasis will return to Manchester Heaton Park for the final gig of their three-night run tomorrow (June 8).

We're busy MrSean, not giving a fuck. We're sick of trying to convince you people to listen to something with any form of integrity. This is us washing our hands of you.

OK then here goes. Oasis are as crass, boorish and loathsome as their band of fans. Will that do?

It was terrible. People kept throwing pi*s in the crowd. Oasis and there fans are the scum of the earth.

Ok, I'll start. From my experience walking round mcr city centre at the weekend, the majority of oasis fans I encountered are p*ssheads who should crawl back to the pubs/football matches from whence they came instead of acting like 15year olds who have just had there first alcopop.

Cracking gig although the barriers were an absolute joke - I hear the first 20,000 got a band to let them into that pen. I can see why if it prevents crushing etc but that's part and parcel of an Oasis gig.By putting the barriers up the real Oasis fans were isolated miles from stage which is ridiculous. I hope this layout is abandoned for the next time I see Oasis - an absolute joke

It's funny how these self labeled forward thinking new music fans still cling to an idiotic stereotype that all Oasis fans are "p*ssheads who should crawl back to the pubs/football matches"... I'm sure they'll soon discover the earth is not flat!
