Oasis gig in Scotland forces school to close

Parents express anger over early shutdown

Police in Scotland were forced to close a primary school early because of an Oasis concert.

Roseburn Primary in Edinburgh was shutdown at 12:15 (BST) yesterday (June 17) following advice from Lothian and Borders police over the numbers of people gathering and drinking in the area for the gig at nearby Murrayfield Stadium.

Some parents said the closure had caused problems over childcare because the school normally closes at 2:45pm.

Angela McGregor, 30, said she could not afford to take time off work to collect her five-year-old son, Robert, at lunchtime.

She told BBC News: "It's ridiculous that the school had to close early because of the Oasis concert. My son Robert lost half a day's education.

"If it was the Queen coming then fair enough. I'm a single parent and I had to make other childcare arrangements."

A spokesman for Edinburgh City Council defended the closure.

The spokesperson said: "We took the decision to close the school for the afternoon based on information we received from the police.

"We also know from past experience that the area will be very busy, access will be difficult and alcohol will be sold in the area."

Oh No Angela McGregor, your son lost half a days education. How ever will you cope - Here's the alternative you silly bint, The police took no action and your son would have to come out of school and walk through tens of thousands of people, drinking, swearing, urinating etc etc. You would probably have had to leave about 1 o clock to get through the traffic as well - Oh, and why would you be OK if it was the Queen? Oasis are much more important that the Queen anyway!!

Y'know, I sort of understood her point until she mentioned the Queen....I'd rather my child witness Oasis fans' carnage than seeing the Queen anyday. x

She's got a point but I don't think Queen would have quite the same pull without Freddie Mercury :DThey never closed the schools near Heaton Park! Still, probably wouldn't have made much difference - they're not the most attended schools in the world round are way!

Oh god will parents stop with that "i'm a single parent" thing, it drives me round the fucking bend plus half a day's education isn't going to do any harm.

What a fuss over half a days worth of primary school education. So what if the kid misses learning what 2 + 2 is. Would the moany bitch rather her child was bombarded with 1000s of drunk oasis fans on his way out of school?

I bet her little lad was arsed that he missed half a days education. My little lad misses a days education each time polling day comes around as his school is a polling station. A days education because lost for giving us the opportunity to vote for bent MP'S.As for the statement 'If it was the Queen coming then fair enough'. Why fair enough? If I lost out on money,on top of the money she costs us all to keep her, I'd be blazing
