Noel Gallagher reveals why he quit Oasis

Guitarist releases full statement blaming 'lack of support from management and bandmates' for departure

Noel Gallagher has issued a full statement blaming "lack of support and understanding from my management and bandmates" as the reason why he quit Oasis yesterday (August 28).

The new statement appeared on the guitarist's blog at Oasisinet.com this afternoon (29).

"Dearly beloved, it is with a heavy heart and a sad face that I say this to you this morning," he wrote.

"As of last Friday, August 28, I have been forced to leave the Manchester rock 'n' roll pop group Oasis.

"The details are not important and of too great a number to list. But I feel you have the right to know that the level of verbal and violent intimidation towards me, my family, friends and comrades has become intolerable. And the lack of support and understanding from my management and bandmates has left me with no other option than to get me cape and seek pastures new.

"I would like firstly to offer my apologies to them kids in Paris who'd paid money and waited all day to see us only to be let down AGAIN by the band. Apologies are probably not enough, I know, but I'm afraid it's all I've got.

"While I'm on the subject, I'd like to say [sorry] to the good people of V Festival that experienced the same thing. Again, I can only apologise - although I don't know why, it was nothing to do with me. I was match-fit and ready to be brilliant. Alas, other people in the group weren't up to it.

"In closing I would like to thank all the Oasis fans, all over the world. The last 18 years have been truly, truly amazing (and I hate that word, but today is the one time I'll deem it appropriate). A dream come true. I take with me glorious memories."

He concluded by telling fans: "Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a family and a football team to indulge. I'll see you somewhere down the road. It's been a fuckin' pleasure."

Have your say on the split by taking part in NME.COM's vote: Can Oasis continue without Noel? now.

Truly unfortunate.I don't care what the haters have to say, they can go listen to their pretentious, glammed up, depressing rock they seem to love. All we can hope for is for Noel to release a solo album, probably too-long due.

.....if this is really the end then there's gonna be some interesting stories to come, Noel's statement is pretty heavy especially when involving band members and management problems......i'll certainly miss them...

Noel,I'm a little surprised you held out for this long. But I get it...he's your brother and this wasn't an easy decision. I wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors. You're a good man and you have no shame in your decision. (Don't Look Back Anger) or regret for that matter! Gildas

About time, oasis had been steadily declining for years and their influence can still be seen in some of the worst abdns around. More sympathy goes to Noel of course, liam can stick 'a pointy shoe' up his arse :).

Noel look what you've gone and done now! Oasis are in the main news headlines for f*** sake. and i never seen so many comments made by people, good or bad on this website. As Kami says it's "unbelievable Geoff"!!! But hopefully Oasis Liam and Noel will put their differences aside (again), and will return! and spurs will beat city to that 4th spot. Live forever NG and LG... who the fuck is andy bell??!!

I am shocked at the news. The best british rock and roll band since the Beatles have split. The last great band this country had has gone. And now all the little indie shitheads can go and listen to all their electro indie shit music. I guess its down to Kasabian, Arctic Monkeys and the enemy to fend off all the little prancy boys. But enough of that, I will never forget Oasis and what they have done for music, in a time of music depression, along with the Verve (Who are also splitting up AGAIN!) they brought rock and roll back to the charts. They bought real music back! Thanks for 6 great albums! (Def Maybe, Morning Glory, Be Here Now, Heathen Chemistry, Dont Belive The Truth, Dig Out Your Soul.) My fav band of all time.

This is not really a comment but a question for reporter: can you find out why, if Noel makes all the decisions, writes the songs, controls the business, makes most of the money, fires or pushes out anyone who disagrees with him or refuses to follow orders, nothing is ever his fault?Does he expect to be forgiven when he says derogatory things about other people/bands?Or fires drummers w/out reason or explanation? Does he expect to be supported when it could cost that person his job/paycheck?If they don't feel intimidated by losing their jobs but still don't support him, does that mean the opposing party's view has merit?I genuinely wish both of them well in future careers far outside of music but feel that the press in future will all be one-sided. It would be alot more fun to stick a needle in and wiggle it around a little bit.

I think you can expect some people to leave comments of hate, because it seems every 2 seconds Noel/Liam give their opinion on every other band they don't like. I don't like Oasis, but i'm not gonna say anything bad about them, even if I want too..

My dad's mate used roadie for Inspiral Carpets with Noel, so when Noel when out and got smashed with the band, my dad's mate could drive the van home. But sad news etc.

I'm certainly not a major Oasis fan, but I have to respect Noel's decision...at least now the one member of the band with any true amountof talent can embrace the fact that he potentially has a great solo career at his feet. Then again..he has quit the band before...

Liam will continue with Oasis on his own. He will write the best songs he's ever written cos without Oasis he is nothing. He has to deliver, and Oasis will still be succesful.Noel is basically the next Paul Weller. It's going to be interesting.I love Oasis and am deeply saddened, but not surprised.

This is EXACTLY what's going to happen...Noel and Ian Brown are going to start some sort of super group, which people will get bored with after a year or so, and then they'll be playing stone roses and oasis songs in their live sets.YOU'VE HEARD IT HERE FIRST!

I am really sorry to say that its about time, they have been stale for most of their career. They only brought out 2 good albums and the rest fell short. There lots of great bands out there & Oasis was not one of them.

Oasis were a brilliant band from 1994-1998. 3 great albums with b-sides that were actually BETTER than the album tracks. They should have called it a day in 1998 and gone out on top with Be Here Now. For the past 10 years, Liam Gallagher has been nothing more than a "haircut and a walk". Simply put...a singer who couldn't sing anymore. Thanks for the early inspiration and albums Oasis. And thank you Noel for putting this dying horse of a band out of it's misery.Joel Knapp....Chicago,USA

Well Noel, with oasis or without oasis always be you fan.I wait for your solo album. And fuck Liam, is not anybody without you.

georgiarose1

Quite simply, Oasis have been the BEST band in the world since 1994 by a country mile. You people who claim they only released two good albums obviously have never really listened to their other albums. Go back to your over-produced, over-rated Pink Floyd, Coldplay and the rest of your arty-farty bands. Sadly, there is not one band on the scene now which comes close to the brilliance of Oasis. Noel - thank you for the hundreds of wonderful songs you put out there for us all to enjoy. They will live forever and will continue to dominate music polls for years to come. I look forward to your solo career (if that's the direction you decide to go).

I'm absolutely gutted as Oasis are my favourite band of all, but hopefully it will just be a break and Noel can make his solo album, then get the band back together in a few years. But they shouldn't continue and dont think they will as it wont be the same.
