Liam Gallagher planning 'next step musically' as 'Oasis are no longer'

Singer finally breaks his silence on split

Liam Gallagher has declared that "Oasis is no longer" – ending speculation that he would continue the band without his brother Noel.

After the guitarist left the group following an altercation backstage in Paris there had been a suggestion that the singer would continue on with the band as the lone Gallagher.

However, speaking to The Times, Liam has declared the group is finished.

"Well, Oasis is no longer. I think we all know that. So that's done," he explained. "It's a shame, but that's life. We had a good run at it. The thing about Oasis is no-one... we ended Oasis. No-one ended it for us. Which was pretty, kind of... cool. I'm thinking of what the next step is musically, which is all my mind's on."

The singer, who is launching a new collection of his clothing label Pretty Green, hinted that he would continue with his Oasis bandmates while Noel pursues a solo career.

"People will be able to buy his records. People will be able to buy our records. So everyone's happy," he explained, adding that he hoped in future to recover his relationship with Noel. "Well, that’s a long way off yet, man, but who knows?"

What do you think Liam should do next?

Send your suggestion and why, with your name, age, where you're from and a photo to news@nme.com with Liam in the subject. We'll print the best in a future issue of NME.

great, the least talented man on the face of the earth has something to say about music. This should be hilarious.

Least talented man on the face of the earth.. come back when you've sold 70m records worldwide, defined a generation with your talent and still sold out stadiums all around the world 15 years later. Clearly your a cock !

shityourlegoff, if you hate oasis so much, stop clicking on oasis stories! nobody gives a fuck what you think! any liam solo projects will be shit tho, little james shit

Anyone blindly defending Liam Gallagher this far down the road, with so many shit albums under his belt is truly one of the braindead, knuckle dragging cretins that keep buying records by this widely discredited bunch of bell ends. Even his brother can't stand to be around him!You people are dense as fuck.

To be fair, Little James was his first attempt, and it was fucking awful. But some of his later songs are not too bad ... e.g. songbird, Born on a different cloud, I'm Outta Time

shityourlegoff. Try providing facts like rossmightsay has, facts rule and opinions can be kept to yourself!and then to further fuel the fire your an idiot you resort to swearing and slaggin fans off, yeah intelligent person you are. Millions of records and millions of fans say your wrong and were right. DON'T LOOK BACK IN ANGER.

i agree , Liam can definately write a song which afterall is what it's all about.Shityourlegoff, i really can't get my head around people like you? havent you got anything better to do with ureself than slag people off? The genius of music is that it's so flexible, it can be enjoyed in many ways. For lots of people, myself included, Oasis provided a soundtrack for playing football on sunny days, having a drinkup on a bank holiday weekend with ure mates, or even conning some bird into thinking that the lyrics of slide away made you think of them! oasis didn't break any new ground musically but whoever said they had to? they just released what they liked and in doing so opened the door to the beatles, the stones, the kinks, the who etc etc for many people.why that makes you so furious is a mystery to me but i'd hate to be stuck in a lift with such an angry, depressing and joyless gentleman such as ureself.have a smoke and a pancake and try to relax a little bit.

Liam- maybe your first step could be apologizing to Noel for smashing his guitar?

like usual some arse tryin to slag off Oasis, very original...suppose you'll presume you know more about music that some "lout" who loves Oasis by announcing how brilliant Muse or Radiohead are like most of the c*nts who write this rag, however Oasis are the only band other than The Jam to have come close to the major positive effect on a dying music industry that The Beatles had and have continued to make great music! thats why they can be held amongst greats like The Beatles, The Stones The Who, The Jam, Springsteen, Neil Young, The Smiths and U2 and as much of an tw*t Liam can act- he fronted Oasis and i d like to see anyone else make Live Forever or Slide Away sound better! we've lost a great British band in an industry which is gradually filling its self full of Spandau Ballet b-side sounding shit electro...and Noel's new tunes are now the most eagerly awaited in the world, and i cant wait for them!!! so if u dont like Oasis why fuckin bother commenting on this would i bother to comment on some gash u like? no, because if i think their gash then they dont matter and dont deserve my comments!!! However as youve took the time to comment on Oasis thats show how much they do matter!!

shityourlegoff, based on your black and white attitude towards Oasis fan's, you are in yourself proving to be a cretin! I'm a huge Oasis fan - braindead? No.

Im with you Shityourlegoff although it pains me to say it becuase you do nothing but slate bands on here. Having said that, i think this time you are right. Liam Gallagher is a prick. Yes he can so....so fucking what? We all know Noel is the organ grinder and Liam is the monkey.

Well said Rockriot!Oasis ruled for 18 years, you can say what you like about them but they sold albums and seats in stadiums. Who else could put on a show at Wmebley Stadium and have a class act like Kasabian supporting them. Songbird, I'm outta time are great songs, so more of the same and he'll be fine - plus I belive he will be working with gem still so all is not lost. Thanks for the memories Oasis - Gone but never to be forgotten. ROck n roll star every last one of ya. shityourlegoff why dont you go shit your tongue off so we dont have to hear anymore of your nonsense!

think if liam hadnt written such painful lyrics for little james it would have gone down quite well. Think Liams album could be decent, but lets face it, Noels has the potential to be an absolute classic.......lets hope so! PS this comment is directed to oasis /music fans, not idiots like shityourlegoff who probably think kaiser chiefs, bloc party, cribs et al are the greatest things out there

lukechota

Oct 9, 2009

yes, you can't argue with record sales. look at celine dion, nickelback, yanni, matchbox 20, def leppard. you can't sell that many records and be a talentless twat. just like when the spice girls broke up we know we're in for 5 great solo artists. darkdestroyer - "facts rule and opinions can be kept to yourself" and then you call him an idiot? i'd like a pancake.

All you knuckle-dragging meathead Oasis fans take note - it would be easier to take you seriously if you could at least spell correctly. The fact that you can't belies your idiocy.

"For lots of people, myself included, Oasis provided a soundtrack for playing football on sunny days, having a drinkup on a bank holiday weekend with ure mates, or even conning some bird into thinking that the lyrics of slide away made you think of them! "Fucking revolting - pretty much sums up the quagmire of shit-brained laddism that Oasis rapidly descended into and came to represent. The pages of NME were always a retreat from the world of such fuckwits. Cue lots of grammatically disastrous counterblasts from exactly the kind of morons I'm talking about.

I was upset when I first heard they'd split. But on the other hand I'm definitely looking forward to Noels new material. But mostly I'm looking forward to watching Liam having a complete car crash of a career from here on in. People will soon see that Noel has always been the backbone of Oasis and that all that Liam has ever had to offer is an image (a loud mouthed swaggering chimp/typical rock and roll rebel) and some light entertainment. I predict Noel to bounce back hopefully in a similar style to Weller when he launched his solo career. And one final point, some of you seem to think Liam can write songs, if you actually look carefully most, if not all of the songs where Liam has been given song writing credits have been co-written, which usually means they've done the bare minimum.

Noel was Oasis not Liam. It may been started by Liam but Noel was the one who made it work and kept the band together. All Liam can do now is attack anyone who wears pointy shoes or skinny jeans or can play a synth.Anyway i hope Noel continues to have success for many years to come because he has deserved it.

rock riot - clap clap clap, summed it up extremely well, hope your around for the next oasis/liam/noel story when some other idiot like shityourlegoff comes on and makes ridiculous statements. its music, if we all liked the same thing wouldn't life be boring as hell and I for one won't be roaming the pages of 'latino hits' to slag off there tunes cos i don't really like it, i'd prefer to just read the stories that interest me, take note shityourlegoff!

Oct 9, 2009

When Oasis split in half you could feel the coolness draining out of Liam! As a whole ban d with Noel you could not touch them because they were the best band in the UK! Now Noel will be saved because he is a genius song writer and has the careers of people such as Paul Weller and Ian Brown to illustrate how single musicians who were in popular bands made a go of it. Liam does not have that talent because he is now officially a "one trick pony with a broken leg.

Scorpio Rising and Shoot Down, I personally hope he hooks up with some of the best producers out there and use his best asset his singing voice. But I suppose anyone who disagrees that he has a good voice probably watches X factor and think warbling like Mariah and Whitney Houston humping a Whoppie Cushion and being able to sing means you have a good voice, a good singing voice has character and personality behind it! And I know someone will come back with he has no personality he's an ape etc are probably Southern and probably like there rock stars to be wearing checkered shirts whilst watching E4...

MusicalElitist

Oct 9, 2009

To be honest, I'm not actually bothered anymore. I used to be a really big Oasis fan, but ever since SOTSOG, its just been downhill. The fact that they've split is sort of a good thing, it will cement their legacy as one of Britains best bands. Ever.

While accurate spelling is to be encouraged, I believe the statement "it would be easier to take you seriously if you could at least spell correctly. The fact that you can't belies your idiocy" is contradictory. At least poor spelling can be attributed to laziness or txt speak...the use of contradictory phrases illustrates someone out of their depth.

Oh how I love the stereotyping of all Oasis fans! We're all "laddish yobs". Why? Because we like our music with a bit of balls? Because we say it as it is? I can find you Oasis fans from all walks of life, not just the working class, council estate lads like myself. I tell you one thing; people who say these are irrelevant pieces of news obviously believe they are relevant otherwise you wouldn't be here getting wound up. Now go back and listen to your "interesting" and "educated" rock music while we listen to a generation defining band who's chief songwriter suffers from dyslexia.

Oasis will be missed whether you like them or not. We don't have any musical "heroes" to idolise anymore. As much as Liam is a **** there isn't any other band out there at the moment that does what Oasis did. Trying to put it into words but what other band could do what Oasis did, Appeal to the masses ie, Kids at school and dads both knowing the words to the songs yet still remain "cool". People say Kasabian can do it but if you go out and ask the public i bet half of them can't name a Kasabian song, whereas most will have an Oasis song they like.Liam and Noel, which will become the Ian Brown

psj3809

Oct 9, 2009

I'm sure Liam will be successful as a solo artist, after Little James his other songs have been pretty good.As for shityourlegoff , check out his comments and hes like a mad cousin with tourettes, just moans about every band/singer there is and thinks hes right. Embarassing

sodhat

Oct 9, 2009

I do enjoy how whenever an Oasis topic comes up, it gets more comments than the rest of the days music news put together... And people were still saying they were irrelevant! They clearly still have a major impact on the British public, even though they are long past their glory days, 15 years, in fact. In contrast, would anyone post about Bloc Party splitting up?Thought not.

Thank you Human Dictionary! It was in fact laziness, I was typing to fast and didn't check my message before posting it - what a "knuckle-dragging meathead Oasis fan" I am huh!I also wanted to add to my message from yesterday, Liam also co-wrote love me and leave me with John Squire. So I think with Noel's solo album and Liam collaborating, they'll be back to save us from muse and radiohead. Now any spelling mistakes?

Each to their own I say. But I loved the eyebrow twins when they were Oasis and will love them wherever they go and whatever they do. Liam was the soul of the band. Who wants a band without attitude and he is the king of attitude. I don't care if people think he is a cock, to me he is as cool now as he was the first time I saw him. I just hope they can make it up. Its v sad that so many people have had such pleasure through their music whilst they have lost a very important relationship.

my heart will not be breaking for a band who should have split up many, many years ago.the gibberish of theyre lyrical ineptitude was only matched by monkey boy juniors ability to hoover up columbias national product.to say that this bunch of second rate beatle impersonators are legends is akin to calling vinny jones a good actor.and so off they go,to that great chav housing estate in pops valhalla, burberry hats at jonty angles ,fake shades hanging limply down charlie sodden nostrils, farewell to the stage and hello to oblivion.

While I'm no great fan of Oasis (and am, incidentally, a massive fan of Radiohead and Muse) the very fact that most stories that appear on this site about them attract so much interest in them is testament to how important they (well, at least their old songs) still are in a time when nothing seems to ever mean that much to people, and while I don't think it a particularly great shame that Oasis have split up, I suppose I can understand why people would think it so. Shityourlegoff strikes me as a massive hypocrite in that they seem to be the type of person who thinks they are intellectually superior to everybody else, yet spends what seems like quite a lot of their time sat on the internet being negative about things, which is not really a particularly enlightened way to spend one's day, seeing as it only goes towards the achievement of negative things, clearly that is a ridiculously stupid attitude to have, they probably spend a lot of their time being such a negative bore to reassure themselves that they are as clever and as interesting as they think they are, when in fact they are not, they're monotonous and tedious and what they say is of no merit whatsoever. I mean anyone how makes the sweeping statement that all Oasis fans are 'knuckle-dragging morons' needs to look in the mirror and ask themself how much of a knuckle-dragging moron they have to be to come up with something so ridiculous. Anyways, I think Liam's new album will be terrible, I think it'll be quite bland, as most of the songs he's written are, and I'm certainly not looking forward to the increasingly cringeworthy content of his lyrics. I think Noel's album will be very interesting though, he seems to be dipping his toes in the pond of psychedlia, judging by 'falling down', so I look forward to seeing where he goes. I always liked Noel better.

Now listen.... Im as sick of hearing the folk defending this dickhead, as other folk are of taking the piss out of the tosser. The band were a bag of shite with one *decent* Lp, they are no more.... LETS MOVE ON !!! Liam has laughed at us for too long now and made millions of $ from spitting and banging a tambourine off his leg like a tit. LIAM PLEASE EMMIGRATE TO THE STATES ! Im sure Noel will gladly flip you the middle digit as you board the plane. Animal Collective anyone? ; )

Shityourlegoff said of Oasis fans "it would be easier to take you seriously if you could at least spell correctly. The fact that you can't belies your idiocy". shityourlegoff - funny you can use spelling as a reason to slag people off, yet you can't use 'belie' properly... here's a quick hint: if oasis fans COULD spell, then you could say "this fact belies their idiocy"... you're welcome.

Firstly i'd like to say that i'm an oasis fan and i can spell quite well thankyou.Shityourlegoff is clearly one of the many indie shitheads around here who at some stage would have liked oasis, but after realising that indie law dictates that "thou shalt not like a band that more than 200 others like", changed his mind and wrote these comments to prove to himself and his cronies that he is a superior being when it comes to music taste and knoledge. What a cunt he is:)And i wear tracksuit bottoms in public on occasion!
