Alan McGee has scrapped plans to make a film dramatisation of the history of Creation Records, the label he founded in 1983.

The Scottish music mogul told BBC Radio 5Live that he was approached by the BBC and Channel 4 to tell the story of the label, which was home to the likes of Oasis, Primal Scream and Super Furry Animals before folding in 1999.

He added that Trainspotting author Irvine Welsh had even been signed up to write the screenplay.

However, McGee said he disagreed with plans to make it a "straight" dramatisation.

He explained that Welsh had come up with the idea to morph McGee's character with the Sex Pistols' impresario Malcolm McLaren and Andrew Loog Oldham, who managed The Rolling Stones in the 1960s.

"That to me was a 10 out of 10 idea," McGee commented. "It was going to be called something like Beyond The Eruption."

He argued that the notion of sticking to the facts in the film "reeked of miscalculation".

Meanwhile, a new documentary about Creation Records is due to be released on DVD on May 9.

'Upside Down' features new interviews with McGee, Noel Gallagher and Primal Scream.
