Contestants on The X Factor have reportedly been banned from performing songs by Oasis or Beady Eye.

The move was made when Nicole Appleton, the wife of Liam Gallagher, joined Louis Walsh in France for the judges houses stage of the show. Walsh is mentoring the boys group in the current series of the ITV reality show and there were fears that someone may choose an Oasis song to audition with in an attempt to impress the judges and progress to the next stage.

However, with Appleton at the centre of Liam Gallagher's reported infidelity and claims he fathered a love child with a New York journalist, a source close to the show told The Sun that any potential embarrassment was put to a halt by Walsh himself. "Everyone was thrilled when Nicole came over to France and help Louis out. She's still incredibly cut up about everything that has happened with Liam so it was very brave of her to thrust herself straight back into the limelight," they said. "Louis is very fond of Nicole and he wanted to make her sure her time in St Tropez was as enjoyable as it possibly could be. For that reason we had a quick word with the contestants and told them not to sing anything written or performed by Liam."

The source continued: "Oasis tracks may not be the usual X Factor fodder but Louis does have the boys' category this year so there was a chance one of them would decide to belt out 'Wonderwall' or something like that. That would have been extremely uncomfortable."

Liam Gallagher's estranged father Tommy, meanwhile has spoken out in defence of his son and predicted that the Beady Eye singer's marriage will survive allegations of cheating and fathering a "secret lovechild".

The former Oasis frontman is reportedly suing The New York Post for libel after the newspaper alleged that he impregnated a reporter, since named as Liza Ghorbani, while cheating on wife Nicole Appleton with her in 2010.

Meanwhile, Liam's brother Noel Gallagher has said that he is "interested" in working with Damon Albarn but refuted claims Oasis will reform in 2014 and headline Glastonbury.

Gallagher spoke about his friendship with the Blur frontman, as well as the future of Oasis, while at this year's GQ Awards where he collected an Icon prize. He has gone on record as saying that he is up for working with Albarn but there is no chance fans will see him back with brother Liam and Oasis next year.
