TOMATOES PUT LIAM IN THE SOUP

Maybe it was the hardcore Oasis fans' way of showing their appreciation as the band opened for Neil Young...

OASIS frontman LIAM GALLAGHER was pelted with tomatoes and spittle during the band's show in PARIS last night (June 24).

At one stage he directly addressed the 16,000 crowd at Paris Omnisport de Paris-Bercy shouting "Don't spit at me, I'm not Bobby Gillespie, I'm not a punk you know... " - a reference to the incident during a J Mascis & The Fog show at London Shepherd's Bush Empire a fortnight ago, when the Primal Scream frontman was spat at and verbally abused by the crowd when he took the stage for a guest vocal appearance, leading him to retaliate by attacking one fan with a microphone stand.

It is unclear what led the Paris crowd to launch the salvo, as eyewitnesses have told NME.COM that many were devotional fans who had been queuing outside hours before the venue opened in a bid to get to the front.

Oasis were supporting Neil Young in the French capital, and as during their US tour with the Black Crowes, they revisited much of their old material, including 'Slide Away', 'Acquiesce' and 'I Am The Walrus'.
