One Direction singer Louis Tomlinson is set to make his debut for Doncaster Rovers tonight (February 26), according to reports.

The Guardian says that the boyband star will make his footballing debut for the club's reserve side tonight, when they take on rivals Rotherham in their last Final Third Development League fixture of the season.

Tomlinson signed up for the club where he once worked as a match-day waiter on a non-contract basis in August of last year. His involvement with the team is an attempt to raise awareness and funds for Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice.

Doncaster spokesman Shaun Lockwood said of Tomlinson: "We've built a relationship with Louis over the last two years and last summer we announced he had signed for us and would play in a development game. He played in a celebrity match here in 2012 which was successful in raising funds for Bluebell Wood and this was a case of 'Can we do something different?'."

He added: "When his schedule allows he comes to watch us, because he supports the team, and he's been here a few times for training sessions ahead of the game. He's met all the players, but I should probably say they've met him because there are certainly a few wives, girlfriends and daughters glad that he's been around."

Earlier this month, Tomlinson's bandmate Harry Styles said that, in terms of fame, One Direction are bigger than The Beatles. Speaking about a recent US tour, he claimed: "We all sat and watched the film of The Beatles arriving in America. And, to be honest, that really was like us. Stepping off the plane, the girls, the madness. It was exactly the same as when we got there - just 50 years earlier."

He added: "But none of us think we're in the same league as them music-wise. We'd be total fools if we did. Fame-wise, it's probably even bigger, but we don't stand anywhere near them in terms of music."

One Direction's third album 'Midnight Memories' went to Number One in the US Billboard chart last year, making them the first group ever to debut at the top spot with their first three albums. It also topped the charts in the UK Official Album Chart.
