OutKast members working on separate solo albums?
Big Boi and Andre 3000 are rumoured to be working on their own LPs
After the duo's former manager Queen Latifah backtracked on her previous comments that the reformed hip-hop duo were working on a new album – tweeting "The rumor mill says I predicted an "OutKast album... except I didn't. Sorry to get twitter a flutter" – it is now thought that the pair are making their own solo albums.
The group's producer Mr. DJ has said that the pair are both working at Stankonia Studios in Atlanta, but on their own albums. He explained to Revolt TV, via Fact, that he believes Andre 3000 will release his debut solo album later this year, adding that Big Boi is also working on material for his third solo LP. However, he added that going on tour might spark off a new OutKast album, saying: "I get the feeling that the energy and camaraderie from the tour will bring everything full circle. We may make it back in for an album following that."
OutKast will play 40 festivals this summer. Earlier this month, the duo revealed that they would be making their live comeback headlining Coachella Festival in California alongside Muse and Arcade Fire in April. They subsequently announced another headline slot at New York's Governors Ball festival, which takes place June 6-8 on Randall's Island.
The reformed duo then announced a 40-date full world festival tour "to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their unique and influential sound", with the exact dates yet to be announced. "It's truly an honour to celebrate 20 years and still be free to do music the way we choose," Big Boi said in a statement. "Don't just think outside the box, know that there is no box. I'm looking forward to rocking the stage with my Bro Ski and to all the fans — stank you smelly much, this is for y'all!"
OutKast went on hiatus in 2007 and have not performed together since 2004. This year is the 20th anniversary of the pair's 1994 debut album 'Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik'.
