Paul McCartney plays intimate New York show
Ex-Beatle hits Highline Ballroom in Manhattan
Earlier in the day, the venue’s box office issued a limited number of free wristbands guaranteeing entry to fans - some of who’d queued since early morning.
Mixing-up material from his new album ‘Memory Almost Full’ and songs fromThe Beatles back-catalogue, Macca was also treated to an early rendition of ‘Happy Birthday’ from the crowd in honour of his imminent birthday 65th birthday.
In a genial mood throughout, McCartney paid tribute to his former band members John Lennon and George Harrison and to late wife Linda who was born in New York.
He also poked fun at his keyboard player David ‘Wix’ Wickens who was absent due to rehearsals for a Royal Variety Show- quipping “…lousy Monarchists!”.
