The new release will be out later this year

Sir Paul McCartney will play on a forthcoming album that will pay tribute to the ex-Beatle's home city of Liverpool.

According to The Sun, McCartney is set to play mandolin on the album, which will be released later in 2008.

Plans are reportedly afoot for a McCartney world tour throughout 2008, although specific dates are yet to be announced.
