The ex-Beatle will perform in front of hundreds of thousands of people

Sir Paul McCartney will play a concert in Kiev, Ukraine on June 14 in front of hundreds of thousands of people.

The former Beatle will perform at the Kiev Independence Square for what is billed as an 'Independence Concert'. The show will be free to attend and broadcast on local station Novy TV.

McCartney is playing at the invitation of the Victor Pinchuk Foundation – a Ukrainian organisation that promotes democracy in soviet countries and is heavily involved in charity work.

A statement from the organisation said it saw McCartney and The Beatles' mentalities as similar to its own, with The Beatles having been a huge influence in promoting peace in the sixties and early seventies.
