The star receives honour from prestigious Yale University

Sir Paul McCartney has been presented with an honorary doctorate from the USA's prestigious Yale University.

The former Beatle was appointed a Doctor of Music at the ceremony in Connecticut yesterday (May 26).

More than 3,000 students also received their degrees at the same time.

As McCartney took to the stage, a band performed a version of The Beatles' 1968 chart-topping single 'Hey Jude', written primarily by McCartney.

The singer was one of eight receiving honorary degrees at the ceremony.
