Paul McCartney is set to mark the opening of the new Citi Field stadium, the new home of the New York Mets baseball team, on July 17 and 18.

The former Beatle will play songs from both his first band's back catalogue, his work with Wings as well as solo compositions and those recorded under his alias The Fireman.

The shows will mark The Mets' moving from their old home, the Shea Stadium, which he originally helped to open and close.

He performed with The Beatles at the Shea on August 15, 1965 and was a guest of Billy Joel at the July 2008 'Last Play At Shea' concert there.

"To be the first to play this stadium is incredible," McCartney said in a statement. "I am really looking forward to a buzzing show."
