PAUL McCARTNEY is set to be the first musician to become a billionaire.

According to the Sunday Times, The Beatles' songwriter has seen his personal wealth rise by #175m, partly due to an inheritance of #150m from his late wife Linda's estate. Other income comes from the continuing sales of the Beatles' back catalogue.

It is estimated that McCartney now has a fortune in the region of #725m, enough to make him the first dollar billionaire pop star.

Royalties from the massive sales of The Beatles' recent compilation album '1' worldwide are expected to boost his wallet yet further, and his wealth is set to top #1 billion within the next 12 months.
