Paul McCartney and Wings guitarist Henry McCullough is critically ill, according to his family.

McCullough, originally from Londonderry, is one of the world's best-known guitarists and has also worked with George Harrison and Joe Cocker.

McCullough's sister Rae Morrison told the BBC that her brother suffered a heart attack on Monday (November 5). "He is a very special person," she said, adding that the family had been inundated with messages of support. "We really are very worried for him, his sister is on her way home from Florida and his brother is coming home from Glasgow," she said.

McCullough was invited by Paul McCartney to join Wings in the 1970s and toured with the band for 18 months. He was also a member of Joe Cocker's band and performed with him at Woodstock in 1969.

After touring with McCartney, he signed to George Harrison's record label Dark Horse to put out his debut solo LP 'Mind Your Own Business' in 1975. He released his last album, 'Poor Man's Moon', in 2008.
