Paul McCartney and The Rolling Stones' Ronnie Wood joined forces at an intimate gig in London last night (March 27) .

The pair played at the Ambassadors Theatre with McCartney's son James ahead of his forthcoming US tour. Wood performed guitar throughout the set while McCartney jumped onstage to play the piano at one point, reports OK Magazine.

The Beatles and Stones legends previously played together during Paul McCartney's show at London's O2 Arena in 2011. At the time the pair performed The Beatles 1969 classic 'Get Back'. They also teamed up for the track at last year's Teenage Cancer Trust gig run.

Paul McCartney is due to embark on his tour later this year, entitled 'Out There'. He has only revealed two dates so far – at the National Stadium in Warsaw, Poland on June 22 and the Happel Stadium in Vienna, Austria on June 27 – but has said that more dates will be announced shortly.

McCartney will also headline the Bonnaroo Festival in Manchester, Tennessee this summer, alongside Mumford and Sons and Tom Petty. Meanwhile Paul McCartney & Wings will release a live version of 'Maybe I'm Amazed' – originally released in 1976 as a radio promo single – on 12-inch vinyl for Record Store Day on April 20. Earlier this week, he criticised bands such as Oasis for comparing themselves with The Beatles.
