Paul McCartney performed a surprise concert in New York's Times Square yesterday (October 10) – scroll down to see fan-shot footage from the performance.

Rolling Stone reports that the singer and his crew arrived in a convoy of yellow taxi cabs at 1pm local time, performing four tracks from his forthcoming album 'New' on a bare-bones stage constructed on a flatbed truck. "I'll be putting a little hat out here later – we're basically busking," he joked at one point. The performance lasted just 15 minutes, with McCartney telling the crowd: "Mr Andy Warhol predicted I'd get 15 minutes of fame. This is it." The four songs played were recent single 'New', 'Save Us', 'Everybody Out There' and 'Queenie Eye'.

A sizeable group of fans had gathered for the performance, having been alerted to it by a tweet from McCartney's account.

It was the second pop-up performance in as many days for McCartney, who surprised students at a Queens, New York school on Wednesday. He played a 13-song set comprising new songs plus Beatles and Wings classics and took questions from students in the auditorium of the Frank Sinatra School for the Arts, pictured right.

McCartney's 'New' is released on October 14. It features production from Mark Ronson, Paul Epworth and Ethan Johns, who has previously worked with Kings Of Leon and Laura Marling. Long-term McCartney collaborator Giles Martin also features on the album's production credits. Scroll down to see the full details now. Speaking to NME earlier this year, McCartney revealed that he found David Bowie's recent comeback inspiring. However, McCartney also explained that 'The Next Day' didn't inspire him directly when he was making 'New'. "By the time he'd released it I was a year into my album, so it wasn't a factor. I'm just in a very positive mood," McCartney said.

The tracklisting for 'New' is as follows:

'Save Us' (produced by Paul Epworth)
'Alligator' (produced by Mark Ronson)
'On My Way to Work' (produced by Giles Martin)
'Queenie Eye' (produced by Paul Epworth)
'Early Days' (produced by Ethan Johns)
'New' (produced by Mark Ronson)
'Appreciate' (produced by Giles Martin)
'Everybody Out There' (produced by Giles Martin)
'Hosanna' (produced by Ethan Johns)
'I Can Bet' (produced by Giles Martin)
'Looking At Her' (produced by Giles Martin)
