Paul McCartney trailing John Newman in Official Album Chart midweek update

Pearl Jam and Cher also outsell former Beatles legend at Midweek point

Paul McCartney is behind John Newman, Pearl Jam and Cher respectively in the race to be Number One in the Official Albums Chart this weekend.

Official Chart Company data reveals that Newman's debut album 'Tribute' is outselling its nearest competition and is currently at Number One at the midweek stage. Pearl Jam's latest album 'Lightning Bolt' is at Number Two while Cher's 'Closer To The Truth' is at Number Three. Behind them at Number Four is McCartney with his album 'New'. The winner of this week's chart battle will be revealed on BBC Radio 1 this Sunday (October 13).

Elsewhere in the Official Album Chart, there The Saturdays are heading for their fifth Top 10 album this weekend with 'Living For The Weekend' new at Number Six. Gary Numan is at Number 10 with his 20th studio album, 'Splinter (Songs From A Broken Mind)', while Lissie is sitting just outside the Top 10 with her new album with 'Back To Forever' (11).

Other new entries at the Midweek Update stage include Trivium (14), Giggs (15), Will Young’s new greatest hits collection (19), Matt Goss (20), Eliza Doolittle (23) and Jonathan Wilson (34)

In the Official Single Chart today (October 16) Miley Cyrus falls from her top spot with 'Wrecking Ball' being replaced by Onerepublic's 'Counting Stars'. New entries in the chart come from Lawson (Three), Wilkinson (Five), Iggy Azalea (Eight) and Justin Bieber (10). Eminem new track 'Rap God' and could join his single 'Berzerk' (Number Six today), in the Top 10 on Sunday.
