Paul Simon schedules special shows in Brooklyn

Paul Simon is set to take part in three special engagements at the Brooklyn Academy Of Music, all of which will take place throughout BAM’s spring season this April.

‘Love in Hard Times: The Music of Paul Simon’ will kick off April 1 and are called ‘Songs from The Capeman’, ‘Under African Skies, and ‘American Tunes’.

‘Songs from The Capeman’, (April 1-6), will be a concert staging of the 1998 Broadway show, for which Simon wrote the music. It will feature guests Little Anthony and the Imperials, Oscar Hernandez and the Spanish Harlem Orchestra, Claudette Sierra, Obie Bermudez and Ray de la Paz, while according to BAM, ‘Under African Skies’ (9-13) “rekindles Paul's passion for the rhythms of South Africa and Brazil represented in…’Graceland ’ and ‘The Rhythm of the Saints’ and will see him joined by David Byrne, Hugh Masekela, Cyro Baptista, Milton Nascimento and Luciana Souza.

Grizzly Bear, the Roches and Olu Dara will join Simon for ‘American Tunes’ (April 23-27), billed as a “a revisit to the quiet railway stations, urban sounds, and immigrant dreams covering a wide range of songs throughout Paul Simon's brilliant career.”

Meanwhile, Starbucks is set to release a live album entitled ‘Live 1969’, scheduled to hit shelves March 11.

The album features previously unreleased live recordings from the duo’s US tour in November 1969, and were originally supposed to be released in 1970, according to Billboard.
