Bookmakers suspend BRIT Awards betting Paul Weller Tickets

A flurry of suspicious Paul Weller-related bets were placed over the weekend

Bookmakers including William Hill, Ladbrokes and Paddy Power have stopped taking bets on the BRIT Awards amid fears that information about which artists are set to win awards has been leaked.

The move comes after a flurry of bets were placed on Paul Weller to win the British Solo Male Artist award at various William Hill shops yesterday (February 15).

Each bet was around £50.

Because they were placed at different branches of William Hill, they are virtually untraceable, reports The Telegraph.

Weller has now been made favourite to win the category. His odds have been slashed from 5/1 as an outsider to 1/5 as the favourite. The other nominees are The Streets, Ian Brown, James Morrison and Will Young.

A jury of 1,000 music industry figures are asked to judge the non-public categories at the BRIT Awards by voting online. Their votes are counted and verified by an official body.

A BRIT Awards spokesman said "Every precaution is taken to keep results under lock and key."

The BRIT Awards take place this Wednesday (February 18) at Earls Court in London.

well the only other nominee on that list worthy of the award is the brown one, but his last album was crap so i guess the modfather would be my bet too!

Just because they're not classed as "cool", it doesn't mean James Morrison & Will Young aren't worthy of winning the award. James Morrison's record sales speak for themselves, not to mention the fact that he has an amazing voice, puts on a fantastic live show, and is a rare British talent. The same goes for Will who is the only person to break free from a reality show title, and has quite easily proven himself as a credible artist. It's the kind of ignorant people that don't bother to take the time to listen to these kinds of artists & write them off as "cheesy pop" that are what's wrong with the arrogance of music fans today. I'd say every one of the nominations for Best Male is worthy this year!
