Simon Cowell has hit back at Paul Weller for criticising TV talent shows.

The X Factor mogul said that the former Jam man was not even worthy of an appearance on the ITV show because, according to Cowell, he has failed to "put out a good record".

"With Elton [John] we have had this love/hate relationship," he said. "I love him because he is bitchy. Weller – I have not read anything he has said which is interesting. If Paul Weller put out a good record I would put him on the show."

The Modfather had previously criticised talent shows such as The X Factor for being "very cheap programming and the lowest common denominator stuff".

The final of The X Factor, which will be held tomorrow (December 11), may see contestant Matt Cardle cover Biffy Clyro's 'Many Of Horror'.
