Pearl Jam are to wage war on professional bootleggers by releasing each show on their European tour as a separate live album, sold via the Internet.
The band play 26 dates on their current European tour. Each show will be released as a double CD compilation each with its own unique packaging and will be sold via the Pearl Jam websites www.pearljam.com and www.tenclub.com
All the albums will be mixed by Brett Eliason, who worked on Pearl Jam's live album 'Live On Two Legs', and who's also the band's sound engineer.
Pearl Jam have always been in favour of fans taping their live performances, and are known for reworking tracks live and constantly changing their set from show to show. Speaking about the project, Pearl Jam manager Kelly Curtis told US website www.sonicnet.com: "It's been disheartening to hear about fans paying up to $50 for a poor-quality bootlegs, our hope is to provide fans who are currently buying high-priced bootlegs with an alternative."
Another Pearl Jam fan added: "This is the ultimate memento for fans because you can actually buy the CD from the gig you went to. Normally we have to settle for poor quality tapes."
The band play the final date on the UK leg of their European tour tonight (June 6) at the Cardiff Arena, before resuming their tour in Paris on Thursday (8). The last European date is scheduled to take place in Rotterdam on July 3.
