Pearl Jam tell festival crowd they've played their 'last gig'

Band hint they will be taking a long time off at Portuguese event

Pearl Jam told a crowd in Portugal that the band have played their "last gig" for a long time.

The band were appearing at the Optimus Alive festival in Lisbon last night (July 11) when they made their announcement, reports Blitz

Reading in Portuguese from a sheet of paper, frontman Eddie Vedder made the announcement just after the band had kicked off their set.

"Thank you for coming to our last show," he told the crowd. "Not our last ever, but our last in a long time."

The band then continued the gig without illuminating why they are taking the break.

This is a non-article. I'll illuminate why they're taking a break for you: It's the last show of the tour! By definition, they're going to take a break. Why don't you concentrate on writing articles that actually need to be written, instead of jumping on soundbites, and deliberately editing/misquoting/decontextualising them in order to make something mundane sound sensational?Although, I guess this kind of hackery is why it's fitting that NME has a red-top...

To clarify:From the Administrator of Pearl Jam's forum: "This has blown way out of proportion. There are a lot of Pearl Jam things in the works so there's no reason to panic about something that wasn't meant. Comprender?" From Pearl Jam's publicist:"He says that at the end of all tours, because the tour has ended. The remark may have gotten a little lost in translation."
