Jazz vocalist PEGGY LEE has died, aged 81.
Lee died at her home in Bel Air, LA yesterday evening (January 21), with her daughter Nicki Lee Foster by her side.
According to a posting on the star's official website, www.peggylee.com, the cause of death is currently thought to be "a myocardial infection, a result of the stroke she suffered three years ago."
In a statement, her daughter Nicki said: "My children David, Holly, and Michael and I were comforted by the fact that she was at home, and that I was able to be by her side.
"My mother was always very appreciative of the love and loyalty she received from her wonderful fans."
Lee is also survived by three grandchildren, David Foster, Holly Foster-Wells, and Michael Foster; and three great-grandchildren.
Lee, probably most well known in the UK for the song 'Fever', received a Grammy award for 'Best Contemporary Vocal Performance' in 1969, as well as a lifetime achievement award in 1995.
In addition to her musical career, which spanned almost 50 years, Lee was also a respected actor. Her most well known parts being in the 1955 film 'Pete Kelly's Blues', and the vocals in the Disney film 'The Lady And The Tramp'.
