Conservative MP slams the incarcerated Babyshambles man

Conservative MP Ann Widdecombe has slammed the incarcerated Babyshambles man Pete Doherty, saying his jailing is "long overdue".

Speaking to NME.COM, Widdecombe claimed that the fact that he had evaded jail previously sent a negative message to the public.

"This is long overdue," she declared, referring to Doherty's jailing. "The fact that he got away with it for so long was sending out the wrong signals. When someone is in the public eye and sets the wrong example there should be a crackdown.

"Rehabilitation does not go far enough in Pete's case, because we need to send out a signal that what he was doing was illegal. It's good that an example has been made."

Government's also cracking down on obesity too Ann. I think you're sending out the wrong signals.

Anne Widdecombe is a far-right politician with 'string 'em up and send 'em back' views. She knows nothing about drug addiction and social problems. Keep your mouth shut, Anne!!

So it is good to make an example of someone who has done very little wrong recently other than turn up late to a couple of meetings and make a vast improvement in his battle against drug addiction. No one is saying he's been completely clean recently, but he has obviously been much improved, how can putting him in drug infested prison possibly help him. Perhaps the reason he "keeps getting away with it" is because the courts have found him not guilty of all the accusations the press have made about him. Just think about the reasons why Pete was attempting to stay clean: 1. To avoid prison2. To turn up to his gigs3. To run the London marathon4. Because his friend, bandmates and management were trying to keep him out of troublePrison makes all of this meaningless, he is quickly going to spiral out of control again. And if he dies it is the fault of people like Ann Widdecombe that Britain has lost one of its best ever musicians and lyricists.

It's about time he gets it, he's had it coming for too long. I'm not right-winged but Pete can't live above the law.
