Babyshambles' Pete Doherty, currently incarcerated in Wormwood Scrubs jail for breaching parole, has claimed he is not on heroin, contrary to reports.

A British tabloid newspaper had claimed that Pete Doherty was taking the drug in jail. However, Doherty has since sent a letter to a fan disputing the reports.

Replying to a letter from a fan and NME reader, Jenny, Doherty wrote: "Watcha Jenny! All the best from The Scrubs. Tell 'em I'm clean [i.e. not on drugs], countin' the days until the next freedom gig! Yours, Pete D."

Ha!! in your face British tabloids! He isnt on drugs!!!! Or maybe i'd like to believe he isnt!???? I hope he's clean bt i somehow just dont know whether to believe him. I love Pete ! xxx

Have you seen that hand writing? Almost as bad as mine when I've been on pints of Star...Suffice to say - tabloid newspapers need to sell more copies on headlines and unfortunately Pete's made himself one.following his past. Smoke without fire? God knows...
