Pete Doherty released from prison

'It was a bit rough' says Babyshambles singer as he exits Wormwood Scrubs

Babyshambles singer Pete Doherty was released from London's Wormwood Scrubs prison at 7:10am (BST) this morning (May 6).

Doherty said he was glad to be out and showed off a medical certificate indicating that he was clean of drugs.

The singer/guitarist had served 29 days of a 14-week jail sentence for breaching probation. He said that he found the medical facilities difficult as he started his sentence.

"Well, I knew it was going to be a bit rough to start with," he said, "with the overcrowding and the medical facilities. Although they do their best – they are good, they can't really cater for the average junkie."

When asked what the worst part of being in the prison was he joked, "Gangsters and Radio 4, basically."

Doherty showed reporters a prison diary he had kept, complete with letters from fans, drawings and written diary entries. He borrowed a reporters' phone then got a lift with NME.COM to meet his managers before heading home.

Pete Doherty told NME.COM that it was unlikely he would be playing a freedom gig tonight. However, he said he was looking forward to hooking up with his Babyshambles bandmates and getting to work on the next Babyshambles album, as well as playing gigs soon.

He said he was "buzzing" after his release.

"I feel great – I've walked out and I don't feel like I want to score," he added. "I feel like I want to go for a nice walk in the park instead."

How long before he is on the drugs again? Nice to see the legal system letting persistant criminals out early again

Well thank god for that. As for the doubters, he has a certificate from the prison saying that he is clean. What more does he have to do?? Hopefully everyone will stop being so ridiculous now. Well done to NME for always putting forward Pete's side. You are the only decent publication out there. We are all behind you Pete. Can't wait for Glasto!

Yes Up the shambles! So glad Pete is proving everybody wrong and im so proud he has managed to get off drugs...now I wish everybody would piss off and leave the guy alone...go slate some rockstars who haven't made the effort to get off the drugs instead of spreading rumours Pete is back on themOh and yeah cheers NME for publishing the truth rather than what will sell!Hopefully Pete will write some more quality tunes in time for Leeds fest!

So a guy who gets caught driving without a licence and has 4 different types of drugs on his person gets less than a mate of mine for non payment of a fine.I'm a Pete Doherty fan but you have to question this stint in prison. Hopefully he can stay away from the drugs and get on with his music.

wartree, shut up giving it the big prison-i-am. one night would be too much for me and most people, i imagine all anyone would want to do is get there head down and avoid everyone, impossible for a rockstar. a fuckin amazing one at that.
