Pete Doherty and Babyshambles play gig in London flat

Fans sing along at Whitechapel show

Pete Doherty played a gig last night (October 27) with his Babyshambles bandmates Adam Ficek and Mick Whitnall at a flat in east London.

See fan footage of the gig by clicking on the video below.

The Whitechapel gig was advertised on internet forums, with fans paying £20 through a cage door at the front of the private flat to gain entry. Doherty played at one end of the sparse main room, with a makeshift bar set up at the other.

The singer/guitarist began playing at about 9pm (BST). Ficek, who performs under the alias Roses, Kings, Castles, also performed solo songs during the show.

Fans sang along and joined in the show throughout, until around 10:45pm (GMT) when, while performing a cover of the rock standard once covered by The Beatles, 'Twist And Shout', Doherty tore through the crowd to the backstage area.

Whitnall and Ficek played Babyshambles' 'I Wish' to end the show.

See the NME Pete Doherty Whitechapel blog on the NME Office Blog now for more about the gig and more video footage.

Twenty quid to watch that shite, I'd only give him twenty quid to kick him in the nuts a few times.

what a bunch of sheep! why would anyone waste £20 to see that?

Looks like the place was packed with dumb-ass teenagers who dont know any better.... I bet they were giving away free drugs and t-shirts after. who would pay £20 for this?

Hahaha! You clowns! The 'sheep' are the people who go to gigs with thousands of people to watch a speck on the horizon. Intimate gigs are infinitely better, 'I wish' I was there. Pete Doherty - voted 'hero of the year' (amongst others) by NME readers yet there isn't one positive comment, me thinks some readers are jealous that a junkie can make it big...but they have nothing to show for themselves.

Yeh, intimate gigs are better, nobody is disputing that mike21bass, only they'd much rather go to a gig where the music is good, Pete had a few good tracks with the Libs and that was it, Babyshambles are pish poor and always will be, why do you think the biggest cheers go up when he plays Libs songs ya cock?

mike21bass you've hit it exactly, on both points, the small gigs and the jealous naysayers, good job. sorry dconka, but Babyshambles are actually a damn fine band, the 1st album is a bit unfocused but Shotters Nation is as good as either of the Libs discs.

Actually, I was there on the 27th and there were cheers throughout all the songs. 'TimesUp' I paid £20 to see it, and it was the best £20 I've ever spent. 'mike21bass' is right, for an extra £5 we would've been in a large venue, hardly seeing Pete at all. Also, the gig was a lot like the initimate gigs he used to play before in The Libertines days. He's a lyrical genious, it frustrates me how only a select people can see this...

The songs he did with the libertines are my favorites to. I'm glad you agree. O look at us go! We're getting along famously!

Pete Doherty a lyrical genius??? Come onto fuck, are you saying he's up there with Dylan, Young, Gilmour and Page/Plant?

The man is a waster. He has perfected the Rock star Cliche of being into drugs, trashing rooms, going to prison, but he lacks one major thing- Talent for writing good songs and performing them. That's why he is performing in bed sits, pretending to start some sort of movement. Prick

you wish he was "starting" (it's been quite a few years since he started that, hasn't it?).. i bet you'd like to see your idols playing you a gig in a flat.. or in his own flat if you think abuot the old lib's days.. but they never will, will they?so let us be happy coz ours do.

orangeboy.if winning best british band two years running, shagging the hottest bird in the world, having umpteen top ten singles and thousends of adoring fans is being a waster.can i be one please

I can't say if he's 'up there' with Dylan, Young etc but given that he shows an exceptional natural ability to write profound lyrics I say he is a genius. If you listen to 'The Good Old Days' then you'll see what I'm taking about. He performs in small venues to benefit his fans, no because he can't fill out larger venues. He sold out the Royal Albert Hall in 20 minutes for Christ sake!

There's no doubting he is talented, that's obvious with his cult following, I just the term "genius" is used too loosely these days, if he's still around and as popular in 20 - 25 years time then I'll give him his dues.
