Pete Doherty returned to Leeds Festival tonight (August 26) as a solo artist, covering Amy Winehouse’s 'Tears Dry On Their Own' as he headlined the Festival Republic tent.

The frontman reunited The Libertines to play the Main Stage at the event last year, but was in rather more intimate surroundings on the site this evening while Muse took on Main Stage headline duties.

Doherty made his Leeds Festival debut with The Libertines back in 2002, then missed the band’s 2003 and 2004 appearances there as he was temporarily suspended from the band. He then played there twice with Babyshambles before last year’s reunion (pictured right).

Tonight’s show was slight on unreleased material, but the singer did play 'Stranger In My Own Skin' – a song that has made its way into solo and Babyshambles setlists before but has never been officially released. He ended the set with 'Fuck Forever' after his tribute to his late friend Winehouse.

Crowd member Anne Davies said after the show:

It was good, obviously it would have been great if The Libertines could have come back but it’s always good to see Pete onstage playing the Libs songs, they do sound good acoustically. The Amy tribute was a lovely touch too.

Another crowd member, Dave Bowden, said:

It was a bit shambolic but I’ve seen Pete before solo and in Babyshambles and it’s always hit or miss, that’s always the deal isn’t it. It was good but not great.

Pete Doherty played:

'At The Flophouse'
'Don't Look Back Into The Sun'
'Arcady'
'The Last Of The English Roses'
'Sheepskin Tearaway'
'Time For Heroes'
'For Lovers'
'Beg, Steal Or Borrow'
'What A Waster'
‘The Ballad Of Grimaldi’
'East Of Eden'
'Can't Stand Me Now'
'Stranger In My Own Skin'
'Killamangiro'
'Tears Dry On Their Own'
'Fuck Forever'
