Pete Doherty thrown out of Thai rehab

The Libertines man was apparently a 'disruptive influence' on other patients

Pete Doherty has been thrown out of rehab in Thailand, after claims that he was being a “disruptive influence” on other patients.

Doherty was attending the facility for heroin and crack cocaine addiction, but workers at The Cabin in Chiang Mai asked The Libertines man to leave after less than three weeks in the rehabilitation centre. The programme’s director, Alastair Mordey said – via the Daily Mail:

Pete was discharged today for therapeutic reasons. It is important to maintain the integrity of the treatment programme for the other clients to have a good chance of recovery. Pete understands this and therefore the reasons behind why we have asked him to leave.

He continued: “Although our parting with Pete is amicable, we are of course disappointed to see him leave. We hope some of the things he has learnt here will help him in the future and look forward to the day when Pete decides to consider recovery again.”

Doherty is understood to have left the facility, which costs £7,200 a month to attend, and is today (July 17) flying back to Heathrow. Over the past two years, less than a dozen patients have been asked to leave the centre.

The singer, who has battled drug addiction throughout the last decade, told NME that he was planning on heading to rehab in April. Doherty has been in and out of rehab over the years. After his release from prison when he was caught burgling bandmate Carl Barat’s flat in 2003, he went to a clinic in Thailand but left after three days.

In 2006, he was bailed and ordered to stay in a rehab clinic in Southgate, north London after pleading guilty to five counts of possessing drugs. In 2007, he checked into Clouds House rehab clinic in Wiltshire for six weeks, but later relapsed.
