Pete Doherty's a no-show for London 'Confession…' film premiere Pete Doherty Tickets
Libertine doesn't make it down to Leicester Square
Pete Doherty's film Confession Of A Child Of The Century premiered in London's Leicester Square last night (December 3) – although he didn't show up to the screening.
The Libertines man had been scheduled to do the press run for the film then watch the screening, but pulled out of attending in the afternoon. His co-star Charlotte Gainsbourg, meanwhile, has not been taking part in promotion for the film since Doherty revealed that the pair had an affair while filming it, and she briefly moved to London with him.
Confession… was directed by Sylvie Verheyde, who made a short speech to the audience before the screening. She joked about how Doherty spoke "bad French" and that she spoke "bad English", so they managed to meet half way while communicating on set.
Reviews for the film have been mainly negative so far, but Doherty's Babyshambles bandmate, bassist Drew McConnell, defended it. After the screening he told NME: "I thought it was an epic document depicting the struggle of the pre-Victorian pet against the tyranny of 18th Century Europe. It's a triumph! It's his first role, and it's a lead one. I'm proud of him."
Confession Of A Child Of The Century opens in the UK on Friday (December 7).
