Charlatans, Hot Hot Heat men join in the fun

Peter Bjorn and John wrap up US tour in LA
Peter, Bjorn and John concluded their tour of the US in Los Angeles last night (February 1), playing to a sold-out crowd at the legendary Roxy Theatre on the Sunset Strip.

This was the first-ever Los Angeles gig for the Swedish trio, who have been gaining momentum Stateside due in large part to the airing of their single, ‘Young Folks’ -- a duet with Victoria Bergsman (formerly of The Concretes) -- on the ultra-popular television show ‘Grey’s Anatomy’.

Bergsman made an appearance at last night’s show, dressed demurely in a lavender chiffon smock. The crowd went wild when she took the stage, but seemed disappointed when she disappeared after only one number.

Frontman Peter Moren was in high spirits throughout the hour–and-a-half long set. Wearing a black cardigan and button-down shirt, he looked like an indie rock librarian wiggling across the stage and leaping into the air.

A replacement drummer sat in for John Eriksson, who had to attend to personal matters back home in Sweden.

“We just got here from New York where I got a cold. But there’s better weather here so we’re doing OK,” Moren assured the audience.

Highlights of the evening included a stripped down version of ‘Amsterdam’ and a sing along to ‘Big Black Coffin’.

The Charlatans frontman Tim Burgess and Hot Hot Heat vocalist Steve Bays looked on throughout the evening from the VIP area. After the show, Burgess told NME.COM: “I thought they were wicked. I discovered them a while ago on their MySpace web page. Now I’m gonna go out and buy the album.”
