Mongrel also join three day bash line-up

Peter Gabriel to play WOMAD

Peter Gabriel has announced plans to make an appearance at this year's WOMAD festival.

The singer will play on the Saturday (July 25) of the bash which takes place in Charlton Park in Wiltshire on July 24-26. Funds from the festival will go to human rights charity human rights charity Witness.

The star will be joined by a host of bands including Reverend And The Makers singer Jon McClure's collective Mongrel, Cimarron, Radiokijada and Rachel Unthank And The Winterset.

"I had no immediate plans to play in the UK," said Gabriel in a statement, "but when festival director Chris Smith heard I was looking for a suitable event for the [human rights organisation] Witness.org, he generously offered me the Saturday (July 25) at WOMAD.

"I'm delighted that my only show in Europe this year will be for a cause so close to my heart."
