Daft Punk and Miley Cyrus to appear on Pharrell Williams' album 'G I R L'
Justin Timberlake and Hans Zimmer also crop up on US artist's new solo album
Earlier this week Pharrell announced details of his new album 'G I R L', due for release on March 3, and NME has heard the album in full – complete with huge name guest stars from one of pop music's most frequent collaborators. Daft Punk, who Pharrell worked with on their 'Random Access Memories' album in 2013, appear on a song titled 'Gust Of Wind' while Cyrus contributes vocals to 'Come Get It Babe'.
Writing about 'Gust Of Wind', which Pharrell described as his "favourite song" on the album at a London playback session earlier this week, NME writer Angus Batey states: "Another widescreen epic, all Bond-ish string surges and French Touch beats. It's about how he can feel his lover's emotions when he opens the window and puts his hands into the breeze. The euphoria of the hook is contrasted with a certain sense of awe-struck unease in the verses. Is there a part of that atmosphere, and perhaps even a smidgen of the melody, that he's lifted from Helen Reddy's spookily mysterious 40-year-old hit 'Angie Baby'?"
'G I R L' is Williams' first solo effort since 2006's 'In My Mind' and also features the producer and performer's Number One single 'Happy' as well as 'Brand New' featuring Justin Timberlake and a track with Alicia Keys plus noted film musician Hans Zimmer. Speaking earlier this year, Pharrell revealed he wants to reunite the Gallagher brothers for a collaboration. The singer said he wants to bring the estranged siblings back together and work with them.
"Who wouldn't want to work with the Gallaghers? Yeah, both of them," Pharrell said. Williams also said that he wants to work with Elton John. "I really respect Elton John's music and I'd love to do something with him," said Williams, who named his son Rocket after the singer's 1972 hit 'Rocket Man'.
Speaking about other people he would like to work with, Williams revealed: "I would love to do a whole album with Stevie Wonder. That would be amazing. He doesn't need me, but it'd be amazing." The pair performed together with Daft Punk and Nile Rogers at the Grammys.
