Prosecutor says Phil Spector has 'conscious disregard for human life'

Five-month retrial is at closing arguments stage

The prosecution delivered its closing argument in the murder retrial of producer Phil Spector today (March 23) in Los Angeles.

Prosecutor Truc Do said that Spector has a tendency to “grab a gun” when angered, and that he has a “conscious disregard for human life”

"When he's ignited, he always does the same thing -- he grabs a gun," Do said, according to Reuters. "In every single one of these incidents, Mr. Spector demonstrates conscious disregard for human life...Her death was a death waiting to happen in his world."

The Wall Of Sound producer is on trial for the murder of actress Lana Clarkson at his Alhambra, CA mansion in February 2003. The defence maintains that she shot herself.

The first trial ended in a jury deadlock of 10-2 in favour of a guilty verdict in September 2007.

As previously reported, the defence last week called psychologist Elizabeth Loftus to the stand in an attempt to cast doubt on the testimony of Spector's chauffeur, who was the prosecution's star witness. The chauffeur testified that he heard Spector say he had killed somebody on the night Clarkson was found dead.
